Another Q - Antacids

FEDup1981

I WILL look like this!!
Sorry for all the recent questions, but as im reading all ur posts, new questions pop into my head!

Ok - so after bypass - do you have to take antacids, and for life? And can you get them on prescription?

yes you will be given a tablet just before yr op and then take 2 a day for 6 months and then one a day for life. you will also need to take iron, calcium and a multivit all available on prescription from yr gp to get the right strength and if you are unfortunate to suffer from hair loss zinc and selinium also off the dr because of the strength needed.

Thanks HC.
For the multi-vit i was told to buy some bassetts chewy multi-vits. Which ive already started taking to get me in the habit. Will i need more than this?

Also these protein shakes everyone mentions. What are these, are these presciption too, or can you buy them?

thanks hun xx

I've just started taking vitamins (multi-bionta as recommended by someone who I work near who has had the op). Will be getting a prescription for calcium tablets and vits (won't need the vits though). Never needed antacids though. Or anti-sickness pills.

Edit: Forgot to mention the protein shakes. You can get the powders from places like Holland & Barrett, Boots do them too I believe. Smell nice when you open the tin but when you make them up they taste a bit ick heh.

Not everyone needs antisickness meds, i am only on them because of the gallbladder complications, only 30% of people who have WLS develop these complications.

The vits you WILL need for life as well as the antacids

Hmm, am I confusing calcium tablets with antacids? As they would pretty much do the same thing?

the fastab/antacids are to prevent ulcers even small ones can cause a lot of problems, the calcium you take at a different time to the antacids
