Back from preop appointment UPDATED in thread

What a day! I turned up for 9.50 (we left at 6am) and they said my appointment wasnt until 11.20 so we had to sit and wait til then! I nearly passed out a few times from feeling so woozy from the carbs withdrawal!

Its not fantastic news but not awful either. They are worried about my mental health as I had mentioned that I had been very low recently and I was waiting for an appointment to see the community mental health team psychiatrist for a antidepressant review.
I have to go back first thing tomorrow to see the hospital psychiatrist to make sure that she is still happy that I will be able to cope with the operation.

I also told them that my blood pressure has been a bit high lately so I have to go and see my GP about that and try to get it under control, if the GP cant I will have to see a heart dr at Charing Cross.

I might also have to have a filter placed in the vein in my neck to filter out any clots that may form as I cant get up and walk about anywhere near as much as they want.

Im a bit upset as it means I may not get my op on the date I have been given :cry:But I am glad that they are doing the right thing to make sure that I am safe. Dr Le Roux says they want to do all they can to get me my op on the date I have so that does help a little.

Its day 4 of the preop diet today and I have really struggled with hunger and lightheadedness today:cry:

Um not sure what else to say really!

hey hun just think everything there doing is for your safety and so the op goes smooth, i hope tomorrow goes well for you aswell so thats another tick in the box for getting closer to you op... good luck sweetpea xx

Im sure you are a bit gutted, I would be too! At the end of the day though you know they are making things as safe as possible for you and thats the most important thing (HUGS) Try and stay positive X

Sounds like your team have your best interests at heart and want you to get your op as safely as they can...

Keep strong and stay positive xx

Glad to hear they are taking your mental health seriously. I've read that quite a large percentage of us get depression post op so it's best to have you as stable as possible. Good for you on being honest with them about how you feel too. I know I feel rather reluctant to mention any mood swings in case they turn round and say no to the surgery. I know in myself how much I can deal with and don't want them to over react.

Think positive chic and good luck for tomorrow x

Hi hun. They are very thorough. I ended up having to see a heart specialist and had loads of tests before the op. Surgery was on the Saturday and I didn't have my last Echocardiogram until the Wednesday, so wasn't even sure I would get the results through in time.

My blood pressure was sky high (165 over 115 - and at that time I was on 6 or 7 different types of bp meds) and they thought that might be too high for the surgery.

As for my mental state, I've been on anti-depressants for a long time. However, I do see a therapist every week (privately), which helps to a certain extent.

Anyway, the long and the short of it is, the surgery went ahead as planned.

I'm really hoping that yours will too. Good luck with your pre-op diet. Don't beat yourself up too much if you slip once in a while.

Hugs x

im sure everything will go ahead it is a positive that they do all these checks it is for you well being.
keep up the great work on the diet i am on it ive lost 10 pounds this week bulk ya meals up with veg to you dont get the pangs.
good luck
kerry

Thanks everyone.

The psychiatrist was fine she said she didnt really think she needed to see me and as far as she was concerned it was all ok. She does want to see me again after the op though which isnt usually standard. She's also said to tell the mental health team that she doesnt think I should change antidepressants before the surgery but to wait until afterwards.

So just need to see the GP now about my blood pressure and wait to see if they decide I need the filter for potential blood clots

x

That all sounds really positive! You will be absolutely fine! xx

thats brill news!! onwards and upwards as they now xx

Sorry i'm a bit late in coming in here but so glad things have moved on a bit from your 1st post. It is refreshing to know they took your mental health seriously cause i think the emotional side of this journey even post op is hard and its good to be prepared. Good luck my fingers are crossed too x

I'm sure you're op will still be on that date, keep your chin up x :)
