Bah! Made a drink

I can't get my head round this not drinking when eating malarky. I have just got myself a yoghurt for breakfast and made a coffee at the same time. Habit I suppose.

Hi
I find that difficult too, although neither my provider or my consultant said it was necessary, so i am wondering if thats for after a fill or from the very beginning??

I have been getting up early to have my cup of tea and soluble vitamins, then about 45 mins later having a yogurt or scrambled egg? Is that enough time to wait??

they say to wait 30-60mins before having a drink so your probably fine. but i have also read that it does not matter when you drink as if the band works by stimulating the nerves at the top of the stomach to make us think we are full like paul o'brien says drinking won't hurt cause food being flushed through the band quicker is what they used to say when it was thought a pouch gets filled if that makes sense. my dietician tells me to wait one hour to have a drink but my neighbour has had a band just over a year has lost 5 stone and she always sips a drink with her meal.????

my provider said when on liquids its fine to have water afterwards.

This theory of Paul O'Briens is really messing with my head. I am not sure how it works now!!!!

Lol guys it is really confusing but i've read that there is alot of new research being done with the band and how they thought it worked initially is not how it works at all lol they must be confused theirselves. apparently paul o'brien is one of the leading lights in obesity surgery so he must be right. although he also says to only eat for twenty mins and wait a whole minute between mouthfuls so you only take in 20 mouthfuls per meal i haven't tried it but have read posts on another forum from banders who do it and they say it works and makes a difference in how much they eat. your food would probably be stone cold by the end of it lol

My surgeon, Mr Sigurdsson goes by what Paul O'Brien says and told me if I stuck by his 8 golden rules (on you tube) I would get the most out of my band.

Interesting how we all get varying advice. I was told to not drink 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating. I tend to stick to that. When I have eaten and drank I find I ate more - so avoid doing it.

tranquil x

Yes 45 mins is good time span xx

We were told by dietician that if you wait a minute after swallowing mouthful of food them its fine to have a drink.

A minute:confused::eek:......Erm:rolleyes:......never heard this before but as I am a stickler too following my providers guidelines I would normally say follow yours too, but I have never heard anyone of being told this, If there is anyone out there that has been I hold me hands up:p

I watched them videos with much interest and whilst I agree with Mr O'Briens theory I think it all depends on where your band is located ( top of tummy or lower down) HTH xxx

I have a definate pouch created, band is anchored in place with a bit of my stomach pulled over to secure it and I was told to wait for liquids after a meal so my pouch is not flushed through..
We need to be finding out from our teams exactly what arrangement we've got individually or we might not get the best effects for us and then wonder why things aren't working as well as they should be x

My band is located in same place as yours is NeeN, I know because I asked before and after surgery also when I had the barium meal I saw my new & old pouch on the telly screen so I knew for sure where it was:D

When I had my band before it was removed I didn't have a problem drinking before a meal but couldn't drink during a meal or for at least an hour after giving the food time to go through x

Perhaps only Mr Sigurdsson does it the Paul O'brien way and only recently? It will be interesting to see what Dolan Park say.
