Being proactive

Hi all,

So, I have been proactive today. I figured I will need to weigh up exact food portions after the surgery or even for the liver shrinking diet before surgery. As I'm visually impaired, I can't use normal kitchen scales, and I sure don't want to depend on my partner all the time, so I bought special talking kitchen scales. I know I don't have the surgery date yet but I'm getting as prepared as I can. I just wish I wasn't so impatient...

What a great thing to do . . .I think its great ahead of it all to start making changes for pre-op and post op. I too got new scales, special sized storage pots etc, and it helped me to get into the right mindset for moving forwards :)

Yes, I am slowly making several changes, especially in how I am eating. Obviously the quality and quantity of what I eat, but also chewing slowly and eating mindfully. I think it is very important to get mentally prepared as soon as possible. My excitement helps in all this: to be honest I Hardly think of anything else. I think I am driving those around me crazy.

Well done for being proactive. I was (& still am ) pre op. it kinda makes you feel in control. Also practically it really helps post op to be totally prepared & as stressed free as possible. Check out Carol Bowen Ball's blog & website. It's really helpful as she has been on her own weight loss journey, loads of recipes & advice. I must admit I quickly became a 'bariatric bore ' but hey just loving my new life. Good luck.

Okay, on this note, anything else any of you did to be proactive? Four example, before the ore-op diet, has anyone ever supplemented one meal with a replacement shake or bar? Also, I have looked at the blog someone recommended, but due to lack of experience with cooking, I could do with easier meals. Can anyone recommend a book or website where I can find a collection of bariatric cookery recipes that are easy to make?

I know of folk who have pre-tried the liver diet ages before being informed to do so. Not being 'full-on', but getting adjusted to the diet to stem off the initial shock of once you're actually on it. [If that made sense..?]

One to consider, and I love your forward thinking. Something I really need to get to grips with.

Thanks, guys. Yes I have been thinking of replacing one meal with a replacement shake ... as I am visually impaired, I want to choose the liver shrinking diet that is easiest for me and doesn't contain too much weighing and measuring, so thought I'd try the replacements. Thanks for all your posts. :)
