No absolutely not too much -- just about right for 2 weeks post surgery.
By week 4 or 5 you should be able to managed 800 - 900.
By approx week 8 you should (naturally and without thinking about it) be able / likely to increase to between 1000 - 1200 and this is ideal for weight LOSS.
For *most* post surgery people (especially women) just under 1200 works for weight LOSS and between 1400 - 1500 works for maintaining a year or two post surgery.
