Can i still get drunk?

Well had two drinks and it over now thank everyone one for the advice and let's not be making judgemental comments everyone is different . To be honest I'm not a big drinker anyway and doesn't bother me to drink pop and never have wine are anything but if I fancy a drink I going to have one the lady who I spoke to at hospital group said she drank brandy and coke which I wouldn't have fizzy fluids

It wasn't aimed at you. I haven't said that you were gagging for wine at two weeks or anything else!

My question was to Clarared who posted here but also created several other threads asking for advice about drinking at 3 weeks post op, all of which many people responded saying not the best at this point but to speak to her provider, hence the question I asked whether she had spoken to her provider for their guidelines.

My post, is neither harsh nor judgemental, (but wasn't in response to your OP) it is however an honest question to someone who is 3 weeks post op out of concern, because we know the band can be a success, but only if we work with the tool and the guidelines we are given. And we also know that there are things which can cause harm or can prevent the band from doing the wonderful job we know it can.

Hear hear TC.

I didn't post after my initial recommendations as it was clear all advise was being ignored.
As a relative newbie (under 200 posts) I didn't think it was my place to say. However I feel strongly about this but only out of concern.

If one is not that bothered about alcohol, then why post several different posts asking for advice then despite all recommendations just going ahead and doing it anyway.

It's sad that so many on this forum have battled through pre op weight diets/milk diets and the like. Have had to jump through hoops for NHS funding, stuck ridgedly to post op diet plans then only to see someone blatantly disregard any advise given and given out of concern and not judgement.

TC, I applaud your honesty

Mrs DF :)

Thanks for responding and clarifying the position. I assumed you were aiming that at me going by my original thread question, which based on that I felt was a harsh response.

As I'm not familiar with the other threads you are referring to I can't really agree or disagree but wanted to acknowledge the time you have taken in clarifying your post as I have obviously misunderstood your direction and therefore apologise if I jumped the gun.

Ive had a few drinks since my op 3 weeks ago. Don't be too hard on yourself, we are only human and i understand you and Bex were just asking if anyone else had been ok having a drink. Hope your doing ok :)

Thank u yes I'm fine how u feeling after 3 weeks ?

Good, yeah I'm feeling pretty much back to normal now, my appetite has come back and I've probably eaten a couple of things I shouldn't but not had any pain so think I'm doing ok. They do say its very different now to when you have your first fill so I'm looking forward to that and getting some proper weight off lol!

Been counting my cals and would say I'm on about 1400 at the moment which needs to come down I think but not being too hard on myself, these things take time x

Alcohol is always a sensitive issue on the forum, lets not get sidetracked by arguing over the wrongs and rights of it, as we all have our own varying opinions, and our providers guidance differs too .... Bex's original question was 'can a bander still GET drunk' ... Simple answer is yes!

Well said :)

Haha ... I was beginning to worry :sigh:

Yes you are right it is always a touchy subject but down to the individual. Like I said I go out every Saturday night for a drinks and am doing ok.

Full lifestyle change and this is what I intend to do for the rest of my life! Before I lost this 5 stone I wouldn't go out but still sat in miserable and drank wine 2 or 3 nights a week.

Also just to point out THG recommendation booklet I got said no alcohol for first 2 weeks post op only! I did wait about 3 or 4 months but that was MY choice. I am an adult and am working with my band but including alcohol.

Some people have crisps and chocolate! Again their choice and if it works for you then good x

To sum up I have just returned from 1 week all inclusive, I drank every day, few sangria s round the pool, wine on a night and I have lost half a pound this week. I stick perfect to my meals and always make good choices x x

Don't want to offend but we can make our own choices good or bad x x

I totally agree with you! And a point well made about the going out.

Being in my twenties I love going out but recently have avoided it and sat in miserable because nothing looked right on me, as I lose the weight my confidence will return and I will enjoy going out more socialising so I too will enjoy a drink - good on you for speaking up and well done on your weight loss :) x

Go for it, by then I'm sure you'll be fine (and a bit smaller too!) x
