seems to be standard - doesnt hurt - mine was fitted during surgery and came out 24 hours later - felt like pulling out a tampax. No pain!

I think for alot of surgery they like you to have a cathetar because your 'output' can be measured - also it's so much easier than having to trail to the loo.

i didnt have a catheter - i had a bypass.

.x.

A catheter is important to know what your fluid output is. Also it is useful incase you go into retention after surgery. After an anaesthetic you can go into urinary retention (its only temporary) which trust me from personal experience I know can be very painful.

I think it depends on the surgeon and the local hospital policy.

Hi

I assumed it was open bypass patients who had a catheter, could be wrong though. Us banders dont get one.
