Diet Advise

a booklet and a chat with the dietician is standard on the nhs, im unsure of what advice is given for private patients.

I got a massive printout from the surgeon, on good and bad food choices, I can call for advice at any time to a dietician and also my surgeon tells me stuff when ever I see him.

NHS - 2 years full aftercare, lots of info beforehand, discharge diet advice, 2 monthly appointments with dietician and bariatric specialist, and telephone/email access to dieticians whenever I need it.

i got a large print out of all stages of food, with examples ect, and advice on how to eat. I get to talk to my dietitian whenever i want as well as regular appointments to see him

I was banded 1 week ago and was told liquids for 2 weeks and that the dietician would ring within 5 working days of us leaving hospital...they've not yet been in touch but it was bank holiday last week.

I'm hoping they will give me a call before I start sloppies next week.

my package included 1 years aftercare, dietician advice and 4 band fills.

Yes, Dolan Park on 25th May. The nurse gave us a bit of a chat a few hours after surgery (I had to share a room with another girl) but tbh I was so groggy, it's all a little vague.
They gave us those great big folders and all they had in were questionnaires regarding customer satisfaction, liquid paracetamol and lots of those little cards with band info on.

WL18S...no dietician advice at all?

Nope, I went to have my leak test when dietician visited the ward, left a message saying she would ring me at home when I got back, she never did so I rang her and of course she wasnt there and I was told she would ring back which she didn't, I'm still waiting .............. pmsl.

well, I'm not holding my breath either...the way things went for me last week with my provider, it wouldn't suprise me if I had to chase them up for what aftercare I'm meant to have

I was required to attend a weight loss management course before I was referred for surgery, she briefly discussed what my post-bypass diet would be like so that I knew what I was in for. At my pre-op assessment I received a booklet pre-op with all the food stages outlined and the surgeon went over it briefly. I had a student dietician visit me the on ward day of discharge and give me diet instructions similar to the ones I had already been given. I was called by the bariatric nurse 3 weeks post-op and she asked about my diet and how I was doing if I was sick or struggling etc. I then saw a dietician at 6 weeks post-op. At my 3 month check-up I was offered to see the dietician but I declined, everything was fine and I didn't feel I needed to see her. The dietician also attends my hospital's support group so I have had the opportunity to ask her any questions I might have.

Overall, I feel like I was given plenty of instructions and dietary advice by everyone.

HTH,
Nic;)

I foned the dietitian for post op advice on things to prepare pre op

I had excpected to see her long before D day

She said she would see me in hospital afterwards, and I'm thinking...... er, what when I'm off my chuff on presrciption quality class A's? Mmmm good idea...

considering my surgeon seemed to go OTT compared to everyone else example x3wks of blood clotting inj, tons of vitamins to go home with and 5 days in hospital after op(8 days in total) my diet advise was pretty awful, it was a single a4 sheet of paper! had a post-op check up 2 wks after op and the dietician wasnt there so saw a member of the surgeons team all ok but still not much advice on diet, thank goodness for this forum!!!!
