Diverticulitis

ThinnerJemima

Here all the time.....
Anyone got this?

I'm due to have my bypass in mid May, not sure whether to mention this to my surgeon in case op is delayed etc.

Any advise from fellow sufferers, and how is this fixed?

I do and my bariatric team know this.... They never said it was going to be an issue so can only assume it isn't. Hope someone else can shed light :)

I would definitely mention an my medical issues to your surgeon. It may delay your op Hun but better safe and all that.

Wasnt thinking straight when i replied earlier...At the moment do you have diverticular disease or diverticulitis? .. Diverticular disease is the condition itself when it's dormant & diverticulitis is when it flares. When I have flare ups I have fluids only for at least 3 days followed by soft foods for a few days. Sometimes a course of antibiotics is required if I feel I need them ... If your diverticular disease is unsymptomatc at the moment I don't think you have too much too worry about but you do need to inform your team that you are a sufferer.... It doesn't go away I'm afraid you can only manage it so to avoid flare ups.

It's diverticular disease. Been a niggling pain for about 4 months. It's not nice but it's not too bad.

Google kindly suggests Ciproflaxin and Metformin together.

What antibiotics do you take.

I have only ever been required to take antibiotics for diverticulosis on one particularly bad episode & that was Amoxicillin. I got complacent with aggravating foods, nuts & small seeds are a big no no for me & I paid for it with raging temp, intense stomach pain, diahorrea and non stop vomiting. I was close to being hospitalised but thankfully after a liquid diet and antibiotics I was on the mend. I have had other flare ups but have managed to avert the need for antibiotics....but thats me. i avoid doctors like the plague unless its absolutley necessary which is not always a good thing.
My only worry I have for post bypass is avoiding constipation which can also aggravate things. I have had no flares since I have changed my eating habits though. Drinking loads and weetabix or all bran keeps me moving. Fybrogel is another but I don't use this as a rule.
Hope this helps
