Does PCT approval = Definate surgery?

If you have PCT approval (I do), does it mean you will definately have surgery?

I'm worried they are still going to make me jump through hoops.. Ive waited a whole year for PCT approval..

:boohoo:

I think the final say goes to the surgeon, although once funding is in place, you are more than likely well on the way to surgery;)

I think once funding is in place you're more likely to get your op. The surgeon does have the final say but will only turn you down for reasons beyond his control. If he thinks that you'd be in any serious danger from having the op then he may say no. As you know there are risks anyway but sometimes if he thinks its too risky and that other methods of weight loss can help, then he may delay it untill you are at less risk. If you don't have too many "serious" ilness's then don't worry.

hi mandy i know from seeing them when i did if you have funding then your pretty much guarenteed the op unless there is a major reason he should say no which i cant think of, have you seen consultant yet once you have you will have a 5 month wait for op this is so the funding goes to them even tho you have it the money takes ages to go thru once it does you get your date

I have my first appointment to see an Endocronoloist on Friday x

In some areas gaining funding means getting the surgery. Whereas, in other areas funding does not guarantee getting the surgery.

For my area the Surgeon has a meeting with all the people involved in your case (anaesthetist, dietician, psychologist...) and decides whether your surgery goes ahead. However, saying that there is usually a very good reason why they will not go ahead with it after all the hoops we have to jump through!

I wouldn't worry about this until it comes to it. As Serenitylove said, your area does not operate this policy so unless there is a significant risk involved with you having the surgery, and that risk outweighs the benefits then you should have no problem.

The final decision will always be the surgeons...You stand a very good chance of getting funding if your surgeon recommends surgery for you.

(((hugs)))

I do have funding agreed. My GP referred me to our local PCT, so I have that in the bag. :bliss:

Not sure if it differs from hospital to hospital.
I was told each case is discussed by multi disciplinary team. They are the one's with the power to say yes or no.

I'm sure if funding is already in place unless there was a major problem, they are unlikely to say no.
