Eak Ibuprofen

I've had really bad tooth ache and only thing that takes away the pain is 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen. I've gained 3 pounds this week when I hopped on the scales. Gutted doesn't even come close. But After googling just, I didn't realise your not suppose to have them? I feel ok, and just wondered if anyone had any any experience of taking them.

Generally bypassers are told to avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen, diclofenac etc because chronic use can cause ulcers, and presumably with our smaller pouches and stoma, we may be at a slightly higher risk. That said, my Dr told me as with any NSAID, occasional use & as long as you take them with food, you shouldn't have any adverse effects.

I also took them when I had toothache a few weeks ago, I always made sure to eat before I had them so hopefully no bad effects :D XX

As a one off mate Im sure you will be fine - however long term use HAS to be stopped. If in doubt ring NHS direct, but I have had them on and off since my op.

I took NSAI drugs for years pre op for my back issues and had stomach problems as a result. I had not taken them for five years since having a bleed but I have now been told by docs to make sure I NEVER take them post op! Will be keeping co-codamol handy as my emergency drug of choice!!

Co-codomol doesn't make the slightest dent in the pain I take NSAIDs for, so they are useless to me. Because I need to take them relatively regularly, I actually have Voltoral prescribed in suppository form...not very glamorous but a much better option than taking them orally! Thankfully I've never had a problem with my stomach taking them, but I don't want to create one either....eeek Mel, a bleed must have been scary!

Not nice I must admit . . scared me a LOT!!! I had taken voltarol retard / diclofenac slow release for about 5 yrs at that point - always last thing at night. Never gave you the 'stomach liners' with them at that point I think they are a relatively new thing. I was in France too . .

Anyway luckily sorted it out over next few months and I then had injections directly into my spine instead. But WOW this soon after my op and my back, knees and hips are actually totally pain free. No pills needed anyway. Just dont ever want toothache, earache or anything else or I will be off the for the suppository variety ha ha!!

OMG, spinal injections......euck, euck, euck  !!!!! The suppositories are gross but I'd rather have that than someone injecting something into my spine....makes me feel all weak just thinking about it!

Think its the anti inflammatory effects of NSAI drugs that seem to help with back, tooth and knee pain etc. Where codeine is pain relieving but not in an anti inflam way? Angie probably knows better but that is why I assume NSAIDs always seemed to help me more - the codeine based ones just made me feel sleepy and tired but I still hurt!

Angie the injections I had for my back were facet joint injections. They hurt like hell to have done but work brilliantly the first and second time . . but then have not worked well since. However I am now hoping that as my huge middle is decreasing and subsequently my posture is improving I may be cured!!!!
