Omg thats so bad i many a time needed extention belt, how dare anyone say u cany fly cause your to fat it so angers me how many ppl out there just cant accept us fpr the way we are and size xx

Last time I flew I needed the extention belt :( It was really embarrassing too. The hostes was lovely but I was mortified. I dont think I would have ever gotten over it had they said I couldn't fly. The poor thing my heart goes out to him

I needed an extention belt last time I flew too. But so did loads of people, and many of them couldn't have been more than a size 18. Those first choice flights have tiny seats. The belt was of no use anyway. I was so wedged into the seat that I wouldn't have shifted if there was turbulance.
I spent the entire holiday with painful swollen feet though.

We get picked on because obesity is visible. You can't always tell if a person is a drug addict, alcoholic, heavy smoker etc, but you can see if they're fat.

How come society are able to discriminate against fat people , they wouldn't try it if it was due to a dissability , as there would be an outcry , it makes me so mad , these people don't know whats around the corner and shouldn't judge others. Its a sad world we live in :sigh:.

It's an interesting one this. I too have had the humiliation of needing an extension belt. Unfortunately I didn't know there was such a thing and worked myself up so much that I had a panic attack. So embarrassing. I had fitted in the seat fine going 3 days before so it must have been a different kind of plane.
If I was an average sized person though I might not feel too happy about a big un like me encroaching my space -be it on a train, plane, bus or even in the theatre. I feel very conscious of this everytime I go anywhere and try to lean away from people. I fear them complaining that I'm squashing them.
Is it always true that disabled people don't have to pay extra for things e.g .booking a people carrier taxi instead of a cab and paying more?
And does there come a point when being overweight becomes a disability in itself?
A thought provoking thread methinks.

I felt like a right tit once, que'd up for Oblivion ride at Alton Towers for and hour, just to be told I was to big for it......Yeah I laughed an all. :(

Thanks for posting the article but I am not going to read it as it will wind me up too much.

I fly quite frequently and I have my own seat belt extension. I find it easier to just sit down and belt up myself rather than asking a snotty nosed size 0 for a belt. Plus if I fly with an airline that does free seating (eg ruinair or should that be ryanair) I rarely have somone beside me as no one wants to sit beside the fat one. Like I care lol.

Most times I dont have a problem but I did have one embarrssing moment a few years ago when I was sitting on the emergency seat row using my belt and just as we were about to take off the sewardess came down and said that the captain said I had to move as I was blocking the emergency exit. Everyone was looking and I was mortified, but it didnt stop me from flying, I just make sure I dont sit in the emergency seat ron.

I am looking forward to the day when I can cut my seat belt extension in bits.

this is one of my most embarasing things, sitting in an aeroplane with a seat designed for an 8 stone person with my hips spread across 3 seats and having to wear a extra seat belt for safety reasons, also why is it the tray never pulls down enough to eat off if your to fat.

I think it is because society does not understand obesity, and thinks it is self-inflicted.

I havent been on a plane since I was 18 (am now 33) and I was goign to magaluf witha group of girls and the alarm was at the side of the seat to call the hostess and it was a fit young man and my hips keps pressing it, during the 2 hours he must have come over 10 times. so embarassing, enough to make me worry all holiday about coming home.
I have never flown since.
