I am feeling really rubbish today we had been contemplating booking a holiday for next year for a while hoping to go with a whole new wardrobe! Finally booked it last week to go to Florida paid deposits and today the company as gone bust. I know there are people a lot worse off than me who have been left stranded and lost their jobs, but cant help feeling down today now have to try and get our deposits back before I can look at booking anything else. Sorry for moaning but just needed somewhere to let off steam.

Oh hun sorry you have been affected by XL going bust. we booked a holiday with them in August and was absoloutly gobsmaked today when i heard the news. Hope you get your deposits and that back soon so that you can rebook something quick. I'm green with envy i love florida and would love to go back!!! keep your chin up xx

Hi Tammy
Thanks for that. I know I was totally shocked this morning when we turned on the TV we went to Florida last year with Travelcity and it was absolutely brilliant was the best airline we had travelled with. I am feeling sorry for myself but I really do feel for the people who will have turned up for work today and found they had no job and for the hundreds turning up at airports with small children looking forward to a holiday of a lifetime only to find they had to return home. I have been on another forum and apparently they were still taking peoples money up until last night when I am sure they must have known what was happening luckily I have only paid my deposit but some people will have lost thousands.

hi lesley

i am searching for something else but prices have flown up..

Hi Emma I know I have been looking around for another holiday but they are all coming out more expensive, and on Sky tonight there was a guy on from BA and he said he expects there to be up to another 30 folding before xmas. Really dont know what to do, dont fancy booking another one and chance losing some more money not sure if we will get our deposit back or when, I did pay it on my credit card but they are saying to contact CAA and they are saying CC companies should pay it back so not really sure who to claim it back from the CC company said probably wouldnt get it back until after we should have gone which is not until next June so I just dont know and all telephone numbers are obviously so busy you cant get through.
Had you booked through XL?

if you paid on a credit card, you may be able to get money back via the credit card provider. if not tis just a case of joining the queue via ABTA or ATOL to see what happens. Sorry to hear you are feeling bad - under the circumstances I think we can forgive you!! Chin up chick, horrible cliche I know but worse things really do happen at sea you know xxxx

hi lesley
mine was with pure flights they are all conected hun..i didnt pay via credit card so got to join the que at atol..

i feel for all of you who have lost out on a holiday, ifeel really sorry for the staff when we flew with xl to florida the cabin crew were fantastic hope you all manage to get your money back and make alternative arrangements.
fuel prices have risen fir no real reason it still costs the same to get it out of the ground and refine it. it seams perverse to me that banks get into trouble by lending to risky business the govt bails them out even though they have been making obseen profits the third biggest tourist operater in the uk gets into trouble because fuel has risen out of control they do nothing whilst peoples money in thed bank is important as are their mortgages but so are peoples holidays you work 48 weeks a year for 2 weeks of fun in the sun. the caa are struggling to find flights to bring those stranded abroad back i might be stupid but the is acompany with 21 jets sitting on the ground with flight crews ready to fly that could do it, xl (sorry rant over)

Hi Dave I agree it is the same with household fuel bills they just keep on rising and as long as the man sat on top of the pile keeps getting his millions it doesnt matter about the little folk who are struggling to make ends meet. I really do feel for the people left stranded who had worked to pay for a holiday and are now going to have to find more money just to get themselves back home.
