Flying post op

I mentioned to my consultant yesterday that I was going on a longhaul flight March, (I will be just over 5 months post bypass then), and he told me to inform the airline just incase of anything happening, which I did and now they want a letter faxing over before I go stating that I am 'fit to fly'. Other's I have spoken to say that they have never heard of this and have flown earlier than what I am:confused:, is it because each carrier has different policies or that people don't declare that they have had surgery, it would be just my luck to have a mishap and have the insurance not payout because I hadn't declared the surgery.

I flew at not quite 6 wks post op to spain. No guidance from consultant re notifying airline. Wore those sexy surgical stockings on flight to & fro incase of possible problems but had none. Only updated travel insurance but then only short haul.
