Funding has been pre approved - Advice please

Hello I'm pretty new here and have never posted before. But I have read through many threads and have found some great advice.

I have been fighting for WLS on the NHS for 5 years and have been refused 3 times by the former South East PCT as I had no underlying health issues yet. I have re applied after my GP informed me that there had been a change in the way funding was issued and it is now being done nationally.

I phoned the doctors today after re applying last week. They have said the funding has been pre approved but the CCG want to get more personal feedback from my GP rather than solely my medical history. I had previously thought it was very black and white and you were either eligible or not. My GP advised me he is phoning them and in the next couple of days and I should get a decision.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? If so does this look like I may finally get some help?

I think it sounds really hopeful.

Part of the form my GP had to fill on was that he had explained to me the risks and no tummy tuck on the NHS. I reckon they want your GP to 'give you a reference' saying you are aware of all the pros and cons and that he thinks you have understood.

Bearing in mind he suggested re-applying for you it sounds very hopeful. Looking forward to hearing more good news from you xx

Thanks I'l keep you informed, I'm hoping it's good news. :)

Got my first appointment with the Homerton Hospital bariatric assessment team, I'm hoping this means funding has been accepted.

How you getting on???? Any news?

Hi, I'm doing fine thanks, I'm just waiting for sleep results to come through after having a sleep study done. Then I can move onto the next step hopefully. The waiting is a bit of a killer tho. :sigh:

I had a sleep study done three months ago, had apnoea, have to wear a vile machine but now waiting for my triple appt :)

Had my triple appt yesterday at Luton. They r all so lovely. Went really well and am starting the milk diet the day after Boxing Day to lose 5%. Hoping to shift a stone in less than a month. You never know there may even be a cancellation n I can get to c surgeon ASAP.
Wondering the time scale now if all goes ahead ?????
My dilemma is we're going on holiday mid April for two weeks so I very very much doubt I will have op in time to heal and eat food again before we go. Unless I'm very very lucky. !!!
How long after by pass op did it take ppl to feel confident in their eating small food? I know its sensible to wait until after hols, but really don't want to wait many more months where I could be on the losing side .
Comments very welcome and advice xxx

i was due surgery end feb start march i was due to be away 1st week april but as im going self catering the idea of being so soon post surgery didnt bother me but now my surgery is on hold so will prob be after my holiday but i think everyone heals etc at different rates and starts foods again at different rates i would juast suggest you see how you feel closer to the time and it may not even be an issue as yet hope this helps

Can I ask if anyone has had quote for travel insurance for just after op? I think my bypass should be around April and my holiday is July I know I'll have to inform holiday insurance but insure how it will effect me x

it sounds like you and I are at similar stages. I have my first meeting in Jan. and my GP has referred me to a respiratory specialist to see if i have sleep apnioa, not sure why I am not just going to a sleep clinic though.... keep in touch, lemme know how it all goes. take care!!

If you have sleep apnoea fir so e areas is a qualifying reason for the operation. I didn't know I had it, but I did n sleep on a c pap machine now. Finding approved immediately fir me :)

It does affect your insurance premium, and you may well be advised not to fly for 3 months due to the risk of DVT, each hospital has its own ideas and advice, but if you are advised not to fly that will put your insurance at risk.
