gastric banding

Hi everyone im new to this so bear with me.
I have been told today by a specialist at st thomas london that he is referring me for a gastric banding op but has to get the funding from my local trust has any one in here had the op done at st thomas' in london:cry:

Did the specialist today talk about the differences between banding and bypass with you?

hi guys the doctor today just told me that he is refering me for the op but have to wait for letter to be sent .Have been under investigation for over 5 years now with what the thought was a tumour of the adrenal gland and the pituartary glands which cause deadly hypertension .
I had an attack last year and i went in to cardiac arrest and have still not been told why the doctor today said i have syndrome x + obstructive sleep apnea +dangerous hypertension+type 2 diabetes+ hyperlipidemmia=short life span
So am really looking forward to seeing if the op will get rid of all my symptons

How long do you normally wait for a referral and then an op

I agree with Shel; it does vary between PCTs. The BOSPA site has some good information BOSPA - The British Obesity Surgery Patient Association

Hi Jack and welcome to minis, I am up in Lancashire so cant help with the hospital just wanted to welcome you to minis.....your surgeon will be the best one to advise on band or bypass, I started out wanting the band but had the bypass in the end and have no regrets....good luck...xx
