GUTSY

Are we gutsy, I heard my husband talking to our friend on the phone the other day.We dont want to book a holiday and we have 2 weddings to goto this year, but because I am waiting for surgery we dont want to plan anything just incase. He was saying that I must have some guts to go through with what I want to do(WLS).Is it guts, stupidity, the last resort or desperation. Either way I wouldnt say I was gutsy, how about you?

I don't know if "gutsy" is the right word, but I admit I heard a lot of similar things when I was pre-op, such as "I couldn't do it" or "you're very brave" or just "wow, really?!" which I didn't understand. I mean, yes, I guess it IS a big thing but it didn't seem so to me. There was no choice due to my health & it wasn't such a 'biggie' (excuse the pun!)

It certainly ISN'T stupidity, perhaps IS the last resort & may BE desperation but you also have to remember, it isn't a miracle cure & we do still have to adjust & make major changes to our lives. Maybe THAT is the big thing & THAT is what makes it gutsy.

of course its GUTSY!! listen to your husband he sounds great if he thinks that way, for many of us its a last resort to not only lose the weight but to keep it off, having the bypass means once done there is little choice but to follow the rules, you go into this with your eyes wide open...

I think it is Gutsy, at the moment I am wobbling lol but thats just nerves.
It is a massive life changing decision and hopefully for teh best for all of us.

Hey it is a gutsy thing your doing, not only have you admitted you need to do something, but your actually doing something - your going to change your life.
But dont stop living, book that holiday and arrange to go to those wedding, not only does it give you something positive to look forward to, and keeps your life as normal as possible !

My husband thinks that anyone that does it is very brave and has guts, He said he couldn't do it and he is so proud of me.
We are all very Gutsy and we should all be proud of ourselves,
I know I am.

I think it is a brave thing to do. I especially felt that way pre-op because you are taking a risk with your life. You are also rolling the dice on complications that can result that range from very scary to slightly irritating. You are taking hold of your future with both hands and doing something important about it. Be proud!

However, when you are on the other side and have sailed through your recovery & have lost weight, you tend think 'what was I so worried about?' You realize it was the best thing you could of done and you wish you had been brave earlier on so you could have been healthy & happier for longer!!!

Life really is short, especially if you feel ill, in pain or ashamed most of the time like many morbidly obese people feel. Taking this surgical step is a leap of faith, faith in yourself that you can change your life and be in charge of your future. In my book that is as brave & gutsy as it gets!!
