Has anyone else used this outfit for by pass surgery?

Any comments?

I suppose it's a bit late now as I've already signed up, but it would be nice to know what to expect. On the face of it, and so far, they have been excellent.

Think Silver Surfer did. I have to say that I had a dreadful experience when I went for a consultation and would rather have burned £12K than given it to David Ashton who in my mind is a salesman, nothing more.

Hi

I contacted them but didnt end up going with them, so cant help Im afraid.

Good luck.

I went through healthier weight and think they are one of the better providers out there.

There aftercare is second to none and they have the best surgeons in the country working with them. I think that tells you a lot!!

Where are you having you surgery? They have great support groups you can go to as well.

Just wanted to wish you good luck with your weight loss journey

I went through healthier weight for my bypass and i'm now just over a year post op, i couldn't find fault with them, as Sue said the aftercare is excellent, you get access to a dietician when ever you need him and medical aftercare in case you need advice or support, to be honest i've not needed any as i've never had a problem other than asking advice about diet etc.

I had my op done by Basil Ammori in Manchester at a private hospital, he is one of the top bariatric surgeons in the world with an excellent success rate, and a really nice pleasant guy to talk with, the surgical team they use are excellent, all the way down to the nurses that look after you while your in.

Good luck

SS

I'm signed up with Healthier weight too

My first impresion with Dr Ashton was that he was doing a sales pitch, however, the longer I sat with him the more I felt that he had my interests at heart. I'm due for a bypass on the 18th Sept! I have called Healthier weight several times since signing up and nothing is too much trouble. I will keep posting on my post op pathway.:D

Hi Steve
I`m sorry I cant help hun . Just being nosey but why didn't you go with the NHS . When are you going for your surgery good luck with it . Take care .
Margaret xx

Bit worrying the first comments, but the later ones look good,

to answer Margaret, the NHS were going to have a look at it, but a friend had been on the waiting list for two years. I'm 58 now, 59 in a month! so every day counts. If I have to wait two years I'll probably be a total wreck. My quality of life is crap, so I'll spend the money and might have a few years to enjoy life.
I was offered a chance with the NHS a few years ago, but thought I could get the blubber off without resorting to surgery, no chance. I should have taken the option when it was offered.

Op is on 5 September. Can't wait!

Hi steve and others i am going with healthier weight, after nearly going with the hospital group heard too many negative reports re after care which is what i am going to use /need for a life long problem of over eating.
Saw Doctor Ashton, who because i had lost weight and was again on the way up would not agree to surgery until he had written evidence from my G.P that i recently had a bmi of 38 infact its been up and down several times over the years photos and records duly produced from Rosemary Conleys, lighter life, etc) as i was only just on the N.I.C.E guidelines.

I believe he has got the information and is going ahead, after a nail biting 2 wks for me, I am paying myself but he said if i had gone to my G.P with all this evidence when i was almost 15 stone at 5. 1 i would have probably been able tohave it on the N.H.S.
Time is of the essence for me now, operation on the 19th September
Mia

Hi Mia, Interesting that Dr Ashton wouldn't approve your surgery until he had evidence from your Dr, about your problem, this would appear to show that he's not just after the money, but cares about what he's doing. I think this can only be a good sign.

It's a ***** having to shell out good money of your own for the job isn't it? I was waiting for the NHS, but when a friend said she'd been waiting 2 years, and she has a worse problem than me, it convinced me to pay. I do have private insurance but they won't pay for it either.

If you're having it done at Cheadle I'll probably see you at the follow up meetings. Look forward to it.

Steve I am under NHS but wanted to wish you well with your surgery

Steve - I understand fully where your coming from, but i'm sitting here now 1 year post op, 11 stone lighter with a BMI of 28, and i can tell you it was the best 10.5k i've ever spent in my life ! and i wish i'd done it 20 years ago.

I had mine done at Cheadle, its a top place, more like a hotel than a hospital. make sure when you book in that you order your daily paper, and if like me you dont like what they have on the menu or drinks list ask for something else, catering were more than happy to accomodate ! :D

You mean you actually get to eat stuff while your in there. I'm amazed.

I start on the liver shrinkage diet on Sunday, should be a fun week.

Yeah the day after the op i was tucking into a large bowl of lime jelly, can tell you after not eating anything for a week it was fab ! once you've got used to drinking you can free drink as much as you want, they offered me this beef consume, which was foul, so instead they warmed up some milk for me which went down much nicer.

Have you got the soups and shakes for your pre op diet ?
