Hi just read your thread and info and was wondering how you are getting on have you had your op yet or got date?? I have now completed all the pre op assessments and cant wait to get the op done so i can plan this year re work and having visitors from abroad lol its seems from your BMI we have similar amounts of weight to loose are they going to do bypass straight off or fit a sleave or band first?? just something my surgeon mentioned to me ?? I really want this to be my last fat summer lol warm regards Jude

hi judy no I haven't had my date yet but I should get it sometime after the 10th march as this is when I see the anaesthetist. My surgeon is going to do the bypass straight off and remove my gall bladder at the same time as I have gall stones already. Where are you having your op done? Is it NHS or Private ?

Hi Judy, welcome to Mini's.

Im almost a lady in weighting....still to make my total commitment but 99% sure I will be going for a band...self funded (may be thats should say loan funded lol)

HI there well I spoke to the hospital (Whittington) today and they managed to squeeze me in (quite a challenge!!lol) 9 March to see surgeon then they will arrange for the nurses to go teh usual tests BP, wee and blood then tell me my date for surgery....very very excited and terrified all at the same time... I am lucky enough to get it on the nhs due to size and health problems, had all the other checks heart, lungs, eating disorder and all ok so ready to roll , I am hoping for bypass straight off, last time i saw him he said maybe do sleave first then bypass but hope he will just go for it I am on warfarin so whether he is worried about that not sure......yes a right little bleeder lol good luck on the 10 are you going private or nhs it seems such a postal code lottery, mind you getting here has taken 7 months so by the time they are able to do surgery it could be awhile longer i just hold on to this time next year i will be lots smaller!! Sorry to hear you got gall stones they are very painful i had my gall bladder out 1988, great they are able to do it all in one for you brilliant!! thanks for the reply :)

I understand where you are coming from it is a big decision and a major lifestyle change how does your family feel about it?? have you decided where to have it done?? i like loan funded lol yes indeed!! i guess at your weight it might not be possible to get nhs funding as i think you need to be over 40bmi .....grrrr good luck with your decision and keep us informed ok fight the good fight!!

Hey Judy!

I am now on the waiting list for a gastric bypass on the NHS at Walsall Manor Hospital. Its not taken too long to get to this stage - about 2 months so I am very lucky. The waiting list is 20 weeks so I am probably looking at July for my op.

You are right about the postcode lottery. I am very lucky that I live in an area that is generally supportive of WLS.

Whereabouts is Whittington? Are you going NHS or private?
