Hi everyone
I'm new to the site. I had my consultation with Mr El-Hasani Monday for a Gastric Bypass under the NHS at the PRU. He advised me that this is a 2 year process! Just wondering if anyone else is under him, and how long they have been waiting. I have to go to an information forum, does anyone know roughly how long you wait for this. Its so great to see so many positive experience on here as it is such a big step to take.

Hi Kim (and welcome) 2 years seems excessive to say the least – lots of different experience from folk on her concerning waiting times . . . mine was initial assessment 03/02/2011 op date – 05/04/2011 (could have been earlier but the antitheists hols got in the way) . . . once you have funding don’t be afraid to shop around – I am convinced (cynical as it might be) that the NHS hospital’s waiting list is much longer than the private hospital as all the NHS surgeons are performing the ops at the private hospitals (with the NHS money) – does this make sence. You will have been given a choice, I would expect so you are in the driving seat .... good luck with your journey xx

Wow that's so quick!
Best of luck with your op, I just hope to have a little more luck, and a little less time to wait!!
Let me know how you get on
Thanks for replying
Good luck
Kim

Hi and welcome , I too am under Mr EL Hasani, i had my initial consult last November, saw Starr ( clinical nurse specialist ) for the group session in January , Starr said about a year, I also talked to his secretary last month and she said about 2 years as he was not doing as many !! not sure who to belive but the secretary said I was 177th on the list !!

Thanks kitkatkate
It's such a long wait, who knows where I will be in 2 years! My weight is so out of control at the moment, I have put on so much that is affecting everything in my life! including my ability to take part in any forms of exercise as my knees are so bad. I am really scared of what the future holds, and would love to be able to go private but it is just not possible.
I just hope his secretary is wrong, cause otherwise I'm looking at about 3 years! X

Hi Kizzy, welcome to the forum.. I can't help you with the waiting time. However, I wish you well on your journey and hope that it will be sooner rather than later.

Hi Kim - I'm under Mr El Hasani too and had my bypass at PRUH in May 2010. I waited 8 months from the group appointment which is when I was accepted onto the waiting list (and that was 2 months after my initial consult with Mr EH) but I know the situation is very different now and there is much less funding available. I do hope you don't have to wait too long for your surgery. In the meantime you should consider coming along to the support group at Chelsfield, this meets on the 2nd Friday each month. And don't hesitate to ask us any questions you have too. Take care hun xx

No I've not been given no choices at all, my GP referred me and no choice was offered. (would this possibly be something discussed in the information forum?) I do understand that this is a long process and not an overnight 'fix', and I'm prepared to be in it for the long haul but if what kitkatkate has said is true its gonna be alot longer than I ever imagined!

Thanks Rose, you have done so well. I will look into coming along to the group once I've has my group appointment.
Best wishes on your journey, and I'm sure I will be asking lots more questions soon!
