Its been great reading everyones threads. I had my consultation at Dolan Park last Sat am calling Monday to get a date. I am 33, bmi under 45 and no health probs. Do you think I will be ok with the £5,000 package with no aftercare or do I go for the £7,500? Im worried about still feeling hungry and it all not working after reading some threads. Im desperate for it to work. Any advice would be really helpful thank you all x

HI,

I'm not sure which surgery you are planning..I'm assuming the Band??

As you probably know, any kind of weight loss surgery is a tool, and will fail if you let it! If you are having a band, then you will need regular fills until you get the restriction that is right for you, the banders will be along to help you with this one!:D I know some of the banders feel hungry soon after their surgery and need to use will power until their first fill. Also with the band remember you will still be able to get down high calorie liquids such as milk shakes, and anything high calorie that can turn liquid and get through your band! Will power is required!! Your anatomy is not changed, you just get restriction eventually with the band.

With the bypass, it is harder to fail because of dumping syndrome and malabsorption, but it can still fail if you do not follow a healthy diet! I have heard of someone who gained back 80 of the 100 pounds they lost because they snacked on pieces of chocolate constantly that were small enough not to cause dumping:eek:

Just remember your surgery is a tool and not a cure, and you will suceed! Good luck, stay positive and just look at the sucess people have had on here with band/bypass.

Hi deebol
i had mine done at dolanpark 5weeks ago and had the 5grand package and to be honest with you i would go for the 5grand package if i were you as the care at hospital the same and surgeon the same and you can have aftercare with another group.
I have gone with the wls group and will be paying £85 for my fills..
Hope that helps

Thanks for that e.green thats really re assuring. Yes it is the band that Im going for. Just woried if I need a question answering or a bit of support after no one is going to be there, but £2500 seems alot to have someone to answer a question. How soon did you have your 1st fill? How much weight you lost so far? Did you do the milk diet week before, was it hard? Sorry bout questions

im only 4 days past op from dollan park ,i chose them as see no reason for 2500 extra care the fills are £85 with another provider and there is so much help and info available on line there was really very little reason for the extra ,but it is each to there own .

there is a thread by me a little further down its long but its all about dollan park and the wga or hospital group ,i would recommend them every time iv already had all my x ray apt threw and just getting over a bad reaction to anaesthetic im sore and tired lol but i think its worth it

forgot to say the pre op diet is down to your surgeon ,on whether your bmi is high diabetes and so on so may be milk and yogurt or 1000calls or like me no diet at all

iv lost 10lbs but that's because i cut down before op last wed and iv lost three since (not weighed today )

you can have a fill as soon as your discharged at around 6 to 8 weeks i believe but i may be wrong ,iv got to get one booked but trying to find someone else to me at the mo

Hi honey

Thanks I have already read your previous threads, really useful. Sounds like it wasnt smooth sailing but you rate the Hosp group. I had my consultation with Sally the other day. Keep picking up the phone to book and then pitting it down, not worried about anything apart from paying £5k and it not working. I know 2 people who's had it done on NHS, 1 lost 9 stone in 11 months, 1 has lost 2 in 10 months (would hate that to be me!!). I have been referred on NHS but im inpatient and want it done now, might be waiting 12 months on NHS. How much you got to lose?:confused::confused::confused:

hi
i am having my first fill 2mos and cant wait lol..
i have lost 17lb but hoping that it will be more steady after fill.
i did slimfast shakes for preop as dont like milk

Only thing that was not smooth sailing was after the op :((but like stated nurses had not come across anyone like me lol) But i was fully looked after and can not fault them(and would go back and will actually ). and yes i rate them lol.

Only person i dont rate is person you mentioned:mad:, and as she is not the one doing the op or the after care yes id still rate them,All she does is get you to pay as long as you don't expect her to do anything other than that then nothing lost:). Like i said she is not in the hospital and not doing the op she is a paper pusher that doesn't do it well.

Iv got 5 stone to lose to be at the weight i want to be at:). So not much ,and im happy as long as it comes off, im not to intrested in the time frame as long as it works over time im happy(but that is not to say if it wants to come off quickly i wont be over the moon lol)

Hiya thanks for getting back to me. I want to lose about 6 stone. How did your week pre op go? did you do milk diet?

im 3 weeks post op but not with your hospital iv lost 20lbs 10 pre op ten post but im not loosing now im maintaining im still hungry but thats because i havnt had any fills yet so be prepared for that for the first week and a half i had restriction because my tummy was swollen and that how i lost the ten lbs but im now following a healthy living plan and doing ok although my portion size is a bit dubious! lol i think of it this way it may take a few months to get the restriction right in which time im hungry and struggle but once its right the weight will come off so its something to look forward to good luck

Hi Deebol

I'm a bypassers so have been down a slightly different route to the one your proposing to travel. However the band was my first thought when thinking about going down the WLS route to slimmness.

you've said you can save 2.5k by not having the aftercare and support, what exactly does that 2.5k actually pay for ?. When i did my research the packages i was looking at included x amount of band fills and deflations in the first year, now remember you will have to have the band deflated when your ill or you want to fly and re inflated when your better or back from hols, plus you may need 3 or so fills to get the restriction right. Its also been discussed here on the forum about the aftercare support and how important to long term weight lose that you have access to the specialist nutritionists and clinical staff post op, remember that band is a tool only and will help you lose the weight you want to, like anything you can cheat it and therefore wont lose the weight. If i were you i'd look into the facts of how much you can expect to pay out on fills etc in the first year and then compare that to the packages you can buy, as it might be worth paying the extra bit and having peace of mind or not having the worry of finding the money etc ! Good luck though with whatever you decide

Richard :D
