Hello I do hope it's okay to post here, seeing as I am so early into my journey, I have been referred via my specialist for weight loss surgery, and yesterday I had a phone call from st Georges saying they want to see me this wednesday and then a meeting has been booked for me to see a dietitian exactly a month later. So I guess my question is, Is this a good sign, I really don't want to get my hopes up, if it could still be a no :( Thank you for your time reading this. Becky

hello becky and welcome

Hi Becky,
I think every area is different but where i am if you get invited for an appointment it means funding is approved and unless there is a surgical/medical reason why you can't have the surgery then you will get it.
Good luck and I hope it works out for you
Suzie

Just got the letter through, it's actually at st georges and I'm seeing a member of the baitric team I've been given questionnaires to fill in.

Hi hun and welcome :) can only offer advise on what I have gone thru on the NHS in Cornwall. GP refereed me to hospital saw consultant who agreed I was a likely candidate to get funding, had to attend 4 group sessions where we learned about food types, portion control etc along side dietician appointments before funding was agreed. Appointment to see surgeon and his team to check suitability for surgery another couple of dieticians appointments to double check weight and eating habits and just this week i got my letter saying I'm on the list wooooohhhhhhhhhh waiting time is 18 weeks tops so should be done and dusted by valentines day lol that will be all in all over 2 1/2 years lol But all areas are different, but hope that helps some x x x good luck

Hello, I was referred by GP to weight management a couple of weeks ago. I rang them today and she said I will have an initial appointment with a consultant then have a 2 hour diet and 1 hour exercise with a group. There is a 3 month waiting list for this so I'm at the very beginning and don't know when I'll get my surgery. Can't wait to hear from them. Good luck!

Hi Becky :)

Precedures have probably changed since i got referred but i initially had a group meeting where all precedures were explained to us and we filled out questionaires . Then i had an
appointment with Bariatric team, dietician, then i had a psychological valuation, then saw dietician again, had pre op then operation. It took rather a long time but i think i was an exception to the rule as many other people on here at same hospital didnt have to wait so long :(..
But to be honest i needed the wait to get my head straight and do lots of research.

All the best

Nicky x

I'm a st George's girl too. At no point was I told I had funding lol. My case was put to the mdt and agreed after I'd met with the surgeon and dietician, maybe that's it?

Anyway they are all lovely, lots of luck x

Hi hun i cant really help with your question but im guessing youve been approved your funding! Im a self pay so i think things work a bit different!

Im sure all will go well for you...and by the way W.E.L.C.O.M.E. xx :)

Hi, my first appointment was on the 2nd sept had a couple more during sept, saw the psych on the 9th October and was banded on the 18 October. Very quick in my book, think it depends on your provider.

Good luck, I'm a few days in and slowly adjusting.

Thanks everyone, I'm so nervous, I'm actually worried I spoke to a friend who has had the operation and she thinks I won't be accepted because I don't have diabetes or heart problems, so many of the questions on the questionnaire were about those issues, I've been referred because I have ehlers danlos syndrome, and my weight is severely impacting my already fragile joints. Well I guess I'll find out tomorrow, I'll let you all know how it goes. xx

I didn't have any co morbidities but my BMI was over 50.

It's all changed now though!

Hi Becky, I had my bypass last Saturday . I was under st.Georges as well. My GP applied for funding on my behalf after many years of struggling to loose weight. It took a while to get an appointment as there was a total mixup with appointments going astray!! Finally I saw the dietitician and consultant in April. I have a BMI above 50 and suffer from osteoarthritis. My weight was really having an impact on my ability to walk and it had been told I was too heavy for knee replacements. I am insulin resistant which is a precursor to diabetes. From what I understand each case is looked at separately. Good luck. I hope all goes well.
