I keep reading that once bypassed you should only take pencil sized rubber bites of food and then chew like hell. I have been trying this and manage for the first few bits but then find myself back to shoveling it in.
How have you all managed. does it come easily.

Hey HC.

I've posted a couple of times about pencil sized rubber amounts. It was something I read in a post bypass cookbook.

Reading it and following it has made my eating SO much easier. I manage it because I know the consequences if I don't!

If I shovel food down, I get wind in my ickle tum. Which hurts like *****. If I don't chew food properly, I get the same. It soon teaches you that small bites and chewing are worth it!

It will be hard for you now, because you've not suffered the consequences, and because you've not got the restriction so you want to eat more. I don't have much hunger, and I can't eat much, so it doesn't take long to chew through it.

It didn't come easily for me, I had to learn the hard way and had 4 periods of that horrid wind before it began to stick in my head. Now I have to remind myself constantly but it is getting easier and I know that pretty soon it will become habit.

Hi HC. To begin with i could only manage tiny amounts but now seem to manage a nice little portion. I do need to chew food well or otherwise it feels like it gets stuck. i also need to make sure i don't overeat or otherwise i will be sick. I too have shovelled food in and get the strangest noises coming from my throat and tummy! it just takes time to get to grips with but you will soon see what you can manage good luck x

Would eating with chopsticks help? I am not being funny - that will make it harder to take large bites :)
May be a good idea but if you are anything like me it would take me 3 days to eat a grain of rice! can't master them at all. Could be a laugh trying though x

I'm still on liquids and will be for another week :sigh: cant wait to get back to something a little more solid. I've found that thick fluids like youghurt and milk shakes go down very well, i can feel them going through which is a bit strange, and i get lots of gurgling deep down but in general they pass through quite smoothly.
