How long untill u should try bread?

Hi i just wanted to know how long should you wait before trying bread?
I'm 5weeks post op and i tried a slice 2day and I'm feeling so sick so i think i wont be touching bread again so soon..

I have had toast as it crunches down to nearly nothing, but I wouldn't try bread as I just know it would clump in my pouch and make me feel bad. I am 3 months post-op.
 
hey thanks omg an there i was 5weeks post op thinking i can handle bread an your 3months and still cant do bread i am brave ant i?lol
I'm feeling so sick wish i never touched bread but dont worry wont be for along time..take care..xx
 
As a bander you are told to avoid bread unless it is toasted and even then some people cannot cope. I am lucky to managed one thick melba toast these days.

Bread pasta and rice will swell after you eat it, so what looks like a small amount will get bigger.

I was told to avoid these things...but everyone seems to get different advice from their surgeons or providers.
 
i am a year post op and i STILL avoid it, i can eat a little but its empty calories as far as i am concerned, plus if its not toasted the most i manage is one slice then i suffer some pains even though i chew it thoroughly
 
I'm years out and it's the luck of the draw if I can manage bread. It has to be toasted or very crusty. Doughy bread is awful.
 
I tried white bread after 4 months and it was awful! I did have nimble bread toasted with marmite and that was fine but 9 months down the line i rarely eat bread as it just dont taste like it used to!
 
wow no bread rice or pasta god you find out some thing new on here every day lol
 
ive been fine with bread from about 6 months. be it white brown toasted , crusty etc althouh its not my first choice by any stretch of the imagination
 
Im fine with rice and pasta infact im fine with everything except white bread! Saying that i can have the odd bit toasted with butter! Yummy!

at this stage I would try focusing on getting your protein intake up. Its good to try remember eat your protein part of a meal first, then the veggies then leave the pasta.potato. rice till the end of the meal so that if you get full up it is the carbs you leave on your plate.

Of course this is a bit hard with cheese on toast lol. Try tescos healthy choice melba toast thins with some laughing cow lite cheese spread on them :)
 
I have half a slice of wholemeal toast with diabetic jam or marmite on for breakfast a couple of times per week. And if i am having soup i do occassionally break a couple of bits of bread (not slices) into it. I do miss it occassionally as it was one of my favourite things pre op but there is nothing worse than that feeling when you have eaten something you shouldn't!
 
I was advised by my dietician not to eat bread, as it dough's up in the pouch, she recommended toast or Rivita at about 5 weeks post op.
 
It's really interesting how the dietary advice varies from surgeon to surgeon.
My team advise puree only for the first 4-6 weeks. After this i can include slightly textured foods such as cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, soft fish and finely minced meats for a few weeks. The third stage says to introduce softly cooked veg and soft fruit, tinned meat and rice pudding for a few more weeks and its only at the fourth stage where they advise trying toasted bread, rice, pasta and salad. My dietician advised me not to try untoasted bread for at least four months and even then to avoid "doughy" bread.
I'm craving toast so badly (not that i'm physically hungry - its more of a head craving !) so just another 2 1/2 months to go before i can try it !
 
I'm not great with bread at almost 7 months post op, but am fine with one slice of toast:D:DAm addicted to rakusen crackers wiv lentil pate or philly on, nom nom :)
