How long untill u should try bread?

I've not had any toast or bread since 20th June :)

I was told I could try toast after about a month. I tried it and could only manage about a 1/4 of a slice before I felt really ill. I tried normal bread with some chicken the other day and it was horribly painful after 2 bites. Not again for me. Though each person is very different in what they can handle.

im 10 weeks out and in small amounts all bread is fine.. but i try to avoid it as its so high in calories! xx

As Cazbandy said - I was told to avoid bread, rice & pasta due to the swelling but I saw a few people on the boards saying they could eat bread & decided to give it a try.

I am 5 months post op & just can not handle it... I've tried them all white, brown, malted, granary, "weight watchers", seed/nut bread etc.

It makes no difference if its toasted or otherwise, or if I chew each tiny bite for 5 minutes - by bite three I am in intense pain.

I think it depends on each individual & your own capacity... eventually with testing over time, you will figure out what & when you candle any of the foods!

Hi Reema at 5 weeks are u not on sloppy foods should u be trying bread so early on in the healing process, i know at the Whittington there is no way we are allowed to eat bread so early post op x

OMG I must be really bad I am 5 week post op and have had bread in the past few days, it seems fine as long as I chew chew chew. I wasnt goign to even try bread uptill i had my fill and they used bread to see if it went through the pouch or not and though oh well if I can have it why not.
I do miss french stick or crusty bread which i know i could never have.
I am slightly worried that i can still manage bread though !
have also just been out with friends and th ekids and had pasta, i ate half a bowl but i am sure i could have managed more !

I had bread for holy communion at 3 weeks post bypass! I was terrified!

I also used to break some small bits of bread into soup every now and then.

This morning I had a whole slice of toast with quorn pate but it was too much, I am going back to half a slice from now on. I probably have that twice a week. When I think back, I could eat half a loaf in a day previously!

thanks your reply yeah i find that im OK with brown bread as i tried a slice yesterday just had the middle of it was fine.I mean in a way i think I'm one who might be able to eat everything with out dumping which is not good news. OK I'm sure there's nothing pleasant about dumping but sometimes i wish i did as i could even have sweet things an i dont dump but I'm staying away from them an so should you all..Please just remember why we went though such a big op..best wishes to all..xxx

Don't let that thought about dumping influence your decisions around food, I find that I could do something one day (like have an orange) and be fine, and the next day dump big time! So just be careful or you could end up getting caught out!!
