hunger, whats it like for you by-passers

I'm only 6 weeks post op, and dont think I have felt true hunger yet but the head hunger was back from about 3 weeks post op.

I still find it amazing that we feel no "real" hunger despite eating such miniscule amounts. I can still only manage a couple of spoons of food before feeling full! I love it.

It depends on what I ate last and if I drank with it, if I eat something heavy e.g new potatoes, steak or pasta without drinking with the meal, I can go 4 to 6 hours without being hungry. If I eat something light and I drink wih the meal, it slips through the pouch a lot quicker and am hungry within a couple of hours, but the hunger isn't like it was pre op. Before my bypass I was frightened of being hungry and as soon as I felt the slightest bit of hunger I would stuff my face, now I don't, I don't fear hunger and its actually a nice feelin at times!!!! Hunger no longer takes over my life and I love it!!!!!

I am the same as you. Nine weeks on and I still feel don't feel true hunger but I do know that I need to eat something. I feel empty.

I haven't suffered with any head hunger but maybe that's because I have had a few health issues to side track me. I did notice the first week after my op ...thats all I seen on TV FOOD!.

1 year 3 months post op (my lord is it really that long???) and hunger now is very different to what it used to be. It's more just knowing that i could do with eating rather than a physical hunger. I am prone to my blood sugar dropping if I don't eat regularly and can feel that coming on sometimes. Sometimes I fancy food, not so much a head hunger but not physical hunger either. It's hard to describe!

Totally off topic (as i've not had op yet) but Shell isn't your pregnancy moving on quickly? Wow soon be delivery time for you, good luck with it xx

Lol Julie, thanks, doesn't feel quick from this side but aye, it's moving on!

I am 6 weeks post op, and when I am hungry I feel nauseus! But that might just be me. I didn't expect to feel hungry yet, but I do. And I too get hypoglycaemic.

yep iv'e felt hungry /empty since about 6 months but even when i do its all very controled. Because i only eat when hungry and not at set meal times my meals are always planned so i know exactly what im going to have. Its a very weired situation as im always left content once ive eaten.

Wow hypoglyceamic 6 weeks post op, its normally long termers that become hypoglyceamic as the calorie intake is negative to the physical energy expended - when you have lots to lose the body compensates for the low blood sugar by taking from the fat stores. Is this something thats been diagnosed post your operation or is it something you've had before the op and is just showing up more now ?
