If your tests show you have an underactive thyoid then you will be treated with medication before any WLS would be considered.

The medication may well solve the problem and set you on the road to healthy weight loss without surgery.

Good luck with whatever you want the results to show.

I have an under active thyroid and am having a band on Tuesday. I was diagnosed about 8 years ago. When the doctor told me the doctor also said it wouldnt't be a magic cure to lose weight and any weight loss is just due to having more energy. I didn't lose any, maybe a few pounds but nothing long term. None of the Bariatric Team have really mentioned it only just to ask about my medication

Thanks for replying, its put my mind at ease a bit. I've been told in the past I am borderline so will wait and see wat happens shud find out Fri next week.x

I was borderline since my early teens, finally given meds when I was 22/23 and never noticed any reduction in my weight or extra energy. If anything, I find it a real struggle to lose weight. I also have problems with short term memory (people think you're thick, loony or you don't listen) and also with cold/heat. I told my sis today I wasnt staying over at hers this Wednesday, and couldn't remember why I had to stay home. Still cant - it'll be bugging me til Wednesday comes around.

Lol that sounds like me, my short term memory has become awful and i too have problems feeling cold all the time. Hubby can be in shorts and no t shirt and i have fluffy boot slippers trousers a jumper and a hoody on and Im still cold...like tonight!x

I too have underactive thyroid which I have had for 8 years or so and it has never been right. I have recently been referred to an Endocrinologist and now am up to 275 thyroxine daily and she is sorting it out for me. I have applied for a band and my Endo has mentioned this as one of my problems in a letter supporting my funding application Having an underactive thyroid makes it hard for you to lose weight so it may help
