hello all :) i am a bit confused as to what criteria i need to fit in to to get funding for my band. it says on the bospa website that the pct have to follow the nice guidelines criteria. does anyone actually know what this means as im totally confused and dont know what it means because i cant seem to find anywhere that gives the actual criteria.
sorry if im waffling lol xxx

In my experience each PCT is different as in some want BMI over 50 and some want BMI over 55. In my area they have no funding left so just ask your Dr they should be able to help

NICE guidelines are as follows:

Adults

  • BMI ≥40 kg/m2 OR BMI 35-40 kg/m2 with other significant disease (e.g. type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure) that could be improved by weight loss and:

  • All appropriate non-surgical measures have failed to achieve or maintain adequate clinically beneficial weight loss for at least 6 months
  • They are receiving or will receive intensive specialist management
  • They are generally fit for anaesthesia and surgery
  • They commit to the need for long-term follow-up

  • As a first-line option if BMI of >50 kg/m2 and surgical intervention is considered appropriate (and consider orlistat before surgery if the waiting time is long)

But I do believe they are changing very soon, if they haven't already so you would need to confirm this with your GP.
