Ime well pissed off ive been attending Salford since March ive done all the pre ops apart from psych test and now ive been told by the nurse Tracey ive got sleep apnea and cant go on the list till its solved complete waste of time thinking of jacking it all in and be a burden on the NHS!!!!

So sorry to read your post, please don't lose heart (easier said than done i know). Here's to hoping your apnoea can get sorted and you start been the loser that you deserve to be (in lbs i mean :) ). Try and be positive.

Sorry thats all the advice i have but i am only just starting my journey.

Deep breaths. Lots of people with sleep apnoea go on to have the surgery, in fact it helps strengthen the fight for funding. All it means is they have to get it controlled before the surgery, as it can put you at greater risk of respiratory complications when under an anaesthetic otherwise.

You'll need to use a C-PAP machine for a couple of months to get it controlled, and then its onwards with surgery :)

I know the extra wait must be frustrating, but try to focus on it being positive that they have found a potentially life threatening problem and are dealing with it.

I know you dont want to hear it but It is very important that they control the sleep apnoea before surgery as it could lead to huge complications in relation to the anaesthetic which are life threatening. I know it is a long journey and it seems to be one thing after another and its hard to see people getting their surgery, but keep going and keep the realisation that this will happen alive! I know its hard to wait so long I have been attending Dr New's clinics at Salford for about 18 months now and im just getting my surgery in 12 days, it is a long process but you WILL get there, they just want to make sure you are as healthy as possible going into it!

Please don't get too disappointed. This is good news! Sleep apnoea can be fatal, so it is great that they have discovered this! This treatment will only delay things for you temporarily as your funding is in place. It is frustrating but, as Shelbell says, try to think of the positive side to this discovery, your surgery will now be a safer procedure.

Lx

Sorry to hear your op will be delayed but it is for the best. The healthier you are when its time to operate then the better. having sleep apnea does'nt stop the surgery but the surgeon will want to know at waht level your s/a is. Having a c-pap machine to help you continue breathing while you're asleep is for your own good. I hope they can sort you out soon and then get on with your op but its better to be safe than sorry don't you think?

Hi sorry your op has been delayed. It is a good thing that they have discovered your sleep apnea at least they can get it sorted. I am almost certain you will still get your op because that is one of the co-morbidities that they check for when passing for funding. Good luck.

as the guys have said here already, sorry to hear of the delay, but sleep apnoea needs to be controlled, it's particularly dangerous in us more portly peeps....yes things will be delayed, but hopefully they'll get you to the sleep clinic in quick time and get you tested, diagnosed and treated....once you have the cpap machine, you'll wonder how you managed without it, you'll wake the next morning 100% more refreshed than you are now, but please be patient, i know it's frustrating, but you know we all have to jump through many hoops before the end result comes, this is another minor setback, and you'll get there before you know it ;)

I'm not going to repeat any of the fab advice you've already being given, but having had a long wait for funding and the op myself I know how hard it is:(
Having said that ,you just have to keep a positive mindset in order to jump through all the hoops , and get over the surgery, so don't give up already;):D
