I used my mobile in macclesfield. Bariatrics are normally in the 2 side rooms right by the nurses station so it's fine to use them. Didn't take my laptop, so not sure about that.
Mobiles are ok as long as they DON'T have a camera. If you are in a private room you might be ok, otherwise they are likely to take it away from you to protect other patients privacy...
That's what I was told.
Laptop? Not sure on that one, you would have to use battery as they are very unlikely to let you plug something into the mains that they haven't had tested.
like shell said there is a tv on the wall in macclesfield and they had no problem when i used my phone. i didnt take my laptop in as they dont have wifi and i dont have a dongle! but i couldnt see them having any problem with it. i just took a load of magazines to read before the op and watched tv after!!

I was in hospital for 9 weeks before the birth of my twins and I used my laptop daily just to watch films on and it was plugged into the mains. One of the twins is very poorly and has been in about 7 hospitals and all have allowed me to use my mobile.
Hi candie i have a blackberry that has email and internet access that i took with me. I was nhs at salford royal and it wasnt a problem in fact i had a conversation with the anethastist about it when he saw it on my bed whilst waiting to go to theater. when it was my turn to go I just buried it amongst my things in my bag and just kept my fingers crossed that it made it to the ward. Once i was afound enough i asked one of the nurses if i could use it and she even got it out of my bag.
If like me they have a booking in suite and then take yr bags to the ward a phone is easy enouh to hide but i would imagine you would have to book a laptop in as valuables and then you may not have acess to it until you can get there to collect it after yr op. our booking in suite was quite away from the ward i was on.
