well i got my letter from spire hospital, i said id tell u what they say so here goes.............

An appointment has been made for you to attend the board room at the spire hospital to discuss your request for weight loss surgery.
this appointment will provide all the information you will require to make an informed decision regarding your obesity management. this is a group session where ten patients have the opportunity to discuss issues related to surgery. (there are facilities to accommodate one escort per patient)

you will recieve information about :-

  1. national institute of clinical excellence and primary care trust guideline.
  2. Surgical options.
  3. Risks and benefits of surgery.
  4. Procedures before, during and after surgery.
  5. Diet and lifestyle change.
You will have the opportunity to ask questions, collect information, meet some of the team members and meet others at the same point in their care.

please attend the main reception desk on 28/09/09 at 09.30am.

this appointment must be attended prior to a decision bein made regarding your progression to surgery.

this is the bit i missed out sorry

if you then wish to discuss progression to surgery the specialist nurse/dietician will arrange an appointment for you. this appointment wii take place in the out patients departments approximatelt two weeks after the group meeting. you should use this time to read the information provided to help you make an informal decision about your chosen obesity management plan. you should formulate questions you may have regarding your care, the specialist nurse, consultant and dietician will carry out a full assessment of your fitness to proceed to surgery and answer any questions you have.

thats my letter, is anyone eklse on here going then?

if u have been to one of these meeting please write what happens as im quite nervous xxxx

hiya im not sure but this sounds like an assesment which is what i went on last week mine was also a spire hosp the one on the wirral liverpool.
At my assesment they done a talk about the dif surgerys first this lasted about and hr and a half then we got our bloods taken mrsa swab blood presure done and ecg then i seen dietician and she just asks a few questions and weighs you and takes your height and tells you your bmi then you see the surgeon and he asks a few questions and then he asks yu what op yu wuld like to go for and what he thinks wuld be best for you.
This is what happened on my appointment but not sure if yours the same it sounds the same good luck and let us all knw how you get on lin.x

if youve got your funding in place hun this will prob be an assesment in which case if it is you should be getin op not much longer after as my surgeon told me they have to say 17wks from that apt but he sed the way they wer goin through the list at the moment i should be back getin op in the next 8wks so fingers xd hes right and i will let ya knw if he was lin.x

hiya, ths is the first step after being approved. it has nothing to do with funding, or that ur def having it done. it is purely just to explain the options of weight loss surgery, the before and after bits etcetc...and to meet the bariatric nurse. if ur going to manchester spire , kath (the nurse)is dead nice. then once youve gone to that.....which i wudnt worry about because every one is in the same position as you, u will get a letter with an appt to have a 1 to 1 wth kath! if u want it that is...

and they dont always have ur funding in place by this point.

dont worry, enjoy it, it explains alot and should settle any initial nerves :0)

thank you all for replyin. just gotta tell work now i need the day off.

i have been approved funding so i know i have the funding, i cant wait now just hate waiting lol xx

is it spire manchester? once you have the first meeting, it should be about...say...two weeks or less till you meet with kath privately, then maybe, max 3 weeks till you see the consultant. and then if u want the op a couple of weeks after. officially u cud hav the op 4 weeks from first meeting but i cant really see how...

Good Luck and hope all goes well at the meeting xxMeJuliexx

To me this sounds like the group info session and not an assessment. U will be in a group and they will discuss all the diff wls, discuss and how they work and most prob show u a film and then u can ask any questions bout the surgery.
In my group info session it was with the bariatric nurse and the dietician but all hospitals are diff.

I had my group meeting at the Spire Manchester on 10th August and I got home today after having my gastric bypass on Saturday 19th September. I could have gone in two weeks earlier but I had to wait for my sister to come back from holiday!

If you don't need to have any further investigations then it can be very quick, however you have to make sure you are very well prepared otherwise it could be overwhelming I think.

I have been extremely impressed with all the staff at the Spire very professional, and very kind they are all stars!! I do have to say that Mr Ammori deserves his reputation, I have had no pain or sickness and I have only minor discomfort!

Good luck xx
