I would never normally say this but i cant wait to be a loser lol 13st i would have to lose to be my ideal weight. Hoping the WLS journey wont be too difficult. I have my group session on the 19th July and cant wait :D x

Nice to see you here Kate, looks like you are doing great! Wise words, stick to the basic rules, take your vitamins, eat enough protein every day, and you will succeed. Once you start seeing success, it spurs you on to continue! Good luck :)

Good luck Sam.
Everything seems to have gone by so quickly for me and I'm guessing because you're at the same hospital as me, it will for you too.
The group session was really interesting and they usually have a post opper there to tell you how it really is!
They ask you there and then if you definitely want surgery to tell them or let them know if you need time to think about it.
I said I did there and then and I had my letter for my consultant appt within a week!
Hope it all goes well for you too.

I know 110% that i want it and i have researched loads its good that they let u decide there n then. My friend wants to come to the session with me lol just hope they let her in. Do u know if they will ask for u to do another diet. I last did one at xmas but gained even though i cut down n didn't eat what i normally would do that was a bit disheartening. Work kicking off already n say its not a medical need so they classing the surgery as cosmetic n they told me unless i can get a letter off surgeon stating it is for medical reasons and not cosmetic they wont have to give me the time off n would have to take it out of my holiday days. But I've no holiday days left now until jan so I'm hoping he will do me the letter.

Omg I can't believe your work, of course it's not just cosmetic, it's a chance to lengthen your life and improve your health! So I'd ask either your GP or the consultant for a letter.
When I had my group session, they said we could take someone with us but if there wasn't enough seats they might be asked to leave, it was pretty full but there were plenty of spare seats when I was there.
They didn't ask us to do another diet, but they did say that any weight we can lose before surgery would be good.

I work at Ventura/Capita so i don't expect much from them apart from making my life difficult as they are at the min as they completely changed my shift and want me to work a shift i cant do due to childcare.Thats good, i may have lost a bit of weight anyway as i had £10 worth of copper and a bunch of keys in my pocket when the nurse weighed me for the referral letter i also shrank 4cm by slouching when she was looking up as i couldn't risk my bmi being 49.9 as boots scales said but she got it as something like 52.3 when i did that. Couldn't risk them saying no but hopefully i will still be at the 50 mark if NGH do my weight n height again x

Have u had the first consultant appointment? What do they do in that one n do u know if they let u decide which op u want or do they decide as I've got my heart set on bypass as cant be reversed and because of the job i do, i do tend to snack at desk as only entitled to 15 mins break coz of the hours i work so no chance of a proper lunch.

Welcome I think so many of us couldn't wait to be a loser it is the first time in my life that I look forward to being weighed. Today was my son's sports day normally I dread these things as he can be difficult even though I have only lost 4and a half stone it has given me confidence and in turn is helping my son.

Yes I have had the first consultant appt, it was 23rd may and I was only referred on 5th April so as you can see there's no messing about at NGH.
I didn't actually get to meet Mr Ackroyd but one of his team, a Dr Martin who was very nice and very easy on the eye :)
He asked what op I'd prefer and agreed with me when I said bypass because I'm a snacker and I eat huge portions!

Well done Wendy, your only 4 and a half stone is amazing, I can't wait to 'only' lose 4 and a half stone :8855:
I managed to lose 4 kg in the past few weeks and that's a major achievement for me!
It's so great to hear how losing the weight gives you back your self confidence, and helps you enjoy things more with your son, I have a 10 yr old daughter and she's desperate for me to get a bike so we can go out riding them together....at the moment just looking at her bike wears me out :8855:

Im exactly the same lol, dunno how I've not lost any weight though as anything too fattening i eat sends me running to the loo due to the IBS I've suffered over the last 5 years after having my gall bladder removed in Barnsley. Also developed a hernia due to last pregnancy but Barnsley Hospital turned me away due to my weight and mentioned that a hernia repair can be done same time as the bypass so i will be asking about that at my first consultant appointment x

There was less than a fortnight between my group session and my consultant appt, so hopefully you'll be seeing a consultant early August :)
Of course I forgot all my questions that I had for him, but luckily the nurse practitioner I saw yesterday was able to answer them for me.

As long as they don't plan any operation for september then any time is great. Im off to Turkey on hols and want one last hol where i can eat n drink normally, the only downside to all this is never being able to drink coke again as i like to have a can of coke on my desk at work x

I haven't booked a holiday his year incase it clashes with my op, I've decided that if I go away all inclusive I'll just eat small amounts of lots of things!
I'm ok with not drinking fizzy drinks because I don't drink that many anyway, coffee is my drink of choice!
I'm guessing about sept/oct for my op and you're a couple of months behind me so I'm guessing nov/dec.
One of the ladies on here who had her bypass at NGH told me she was 4 months from group session to op, which is encouraging!

I put my funding application in mid march n waited 2 months to hear funding was accepted. I phoned docs on a weekly basis to ask if they had heard but each time they said no. I eventually rang PALS to chase it up n they told me PCT had given their decision 1 week after application was made. Turns out that it had been sat in their admin office n no one had even bothered to look at it then they couldn't fit me in to be weighed etc until right at end of may n then the bank hols delayed it so again i got fed up of waiting and called NGH who said they were sending out the appointment date that day. If the docs had done everything that they were supposed to and looked at and actioned their post then i would have been slightly ahead of ur dates lol. I been told i cant even eat a mcds anymore after surgery even though i hardly ever have one as cant be doing with going down to asda for it lol but maybe i may try a happy meal as a treat after its all over n settled but going by what ppl are saying that even one of those may be too much, chocolate milkshake it may be then lol as i love their milkshakes x

I just don't get how you had to apply for funding and it's never been mentioned to me?
I assume with all the tests and appointments I've had I do actually have funding

Apparently the docs write for funding then they send the stuff through for referral appointment yo be done weight, height blood etc i was told by one of the nurses there that she has never heard of anyone under this PCT being refused but as it took so long i really thought it would be a no. When i finally got the answer to funding it was like all my birthdays had come at once as just recently before i went to docs about it i thought i would just have to resign myself to always being big. Ive always been big since age 10 so dont have much of an idea as what it will be like out in town etc when its all off as i get the usual of fat slag, B**** n spat at and called ugly fat C*** one bloke even started following me calling me all sorts when my son has been with me in the pushchair its usually outside bus station or when walking home on main Rd as I'm sure some ppl like to make themselves feel big shouting that at me.

Omg how completely horrible for you! I know so many on here have been abused because of their size
There's a few of us who meet up in Bradford if you wanted to join us and chat to someone who's going through the same, or if you ever fancy meeting up in Barnsley for a coffee let me know :)
