Hi Kate, I'm sorry I can't help you with this as I too know nothing about it. I'm sure there are many members here who too suffer with this and will be willing to advise you. Please remember though that everyone is different and will heal at a different pace. Good luck and I hope you get some answers. xxGaynorxx

hi kate i also have fibromyalgia and have had for the last five years, so i am also interested inthe answer to this question. julie.

Hello,

There are a few of us fibro sufferers on here, although I think most are early days post or pre op.

I have fibro along with a list of other things. The surgery made a huge difference very quickly. I had a good recovery, and my general pain levels decreased dramatically very soon post op.

Since the surgery, I've only had one fibro flare. It lasted a couple of weeks instead of a couple of months and I managed to work through it.

Also since the surgery, I have only taken painkillers a couple of times, and only paracetemol. I was on dihydracodeine daily pre-op.

I have IBS with the fibro, and that has pretty much gone. Only a couple of attacks in the 10 months post op rather than a couple a week pre-op. Previous trigger foods such as wheat and dairy are now fine too.

So in short, for me it didn't affect my recovery, and has been vastly improved very quickly.

Hi there

i have fibromyalgia and MS. I had my bypass early April this year and I am much better now. I had a bit of trouble as I have IBS too with my tummy but soon found out that it was a bowel infection and I was also lactose intollerant. I am better now the further I have gone post op though and do manage about half a pint of milk a day without any problems.

As for the pain with the fibro, the meds they give you are liquid or crushed form after surgery so its hard but I have liquid Ibruprofen and co-codamol disolvable for my pain. I have found that I am not taking my amytriptaline any more but could do with it at the moment.
I have not noticed any difference with my recovery other than I was not getting enough protein at first and I was feeling more tired than usual.

Hope this helps you! If you need to ask anything else, please do so.
I am away for a week starting tomorrow but will catch up when I come home.
Good luck and best wishes

Hi Kate

Well it looks like alot of your questions have been answered - i have suffered with it since 2000 and i do have a severe form of it so i am hoping also that this op will not only reduce my weight but reduce my symptoms and pain!!!!

Hope everything goes ok for your op and that you have a speedy recovery x
