Medication after surgery - Diabetes

I asked the specialist bariatric nurse and the dietician about T2 Diabetes resolving after surgery at my clinic appointment yesterday. They both said that they can only say its in remission because there isnt enough research done on people several years after bypass yet. The research is being done but it obviously takes years so eventually we will get a difinitive answer about it :D XX

Just an update, I had my annual retinal screening today and asked the lady what would happen next year and she said it was all down to my surgery as to whether they keep me on the list or take me off.

She said they contact the surgeries and get a list of newly diagnosed patients and ones to delete from the list. Knowing the cutbacks I can see me coming off the list next year, so time will tell. But to add to what Kelly said my surgeon also used the word 'cured' he said something about sugars in the bowl but lost me on the internal workings!

I asked my diabetic nurse whether I will still have the checks as I have had normal readings and been off meds for 17 months now. She said I will always have the eye and feet checks and blood tests as diabetes is never cured and someone who has had high sugar is more prone at vulnerable times. Funny enough I am now getting hypos in the afternoon where blood is in the 3s so have to eat often

hi i was told to stop all my diabetic medication the day after the op and blood sugars have been perfect ever since . according to dr i am now classed as a diabetic in remission but warned it could come back in future

Yes I thought it would be diabetic in remission or 'diet controlled' and was surprised when the surgeon used the word 'cured' I would have thought it not a good description.

But hey if I have good results I will worry about the future later. I was just a bit worried about the eye tests as I showed slight background retinopathy last year. The photo's looked good this year though.
