I dont know if this is the right place to ask, but i totally forgot to ask the team when I would be able to ride my horse again, does anyone here have any idea?
I go in on Thursday for my bypass.

Hi :)

I can barely ride a bike let alone a horse!
Hopefully someone can answer your question but I can't see why not xx

I would imagine it would be the same as with any strenuous exercise. It isn't just the riding is it, it's the saddling and grooming afterwards as well. I think I have seen other bypassers say 6 weeks plus, but sorry I'm a bander!

I am 3 weeks 4 days after surgery for bypass, got back on at the weekend, walk and some trot (very tired) have been helping daughter for last week as we have a very stroppy section D who drops her shoulder an tanks off when led!!!! Been groom for daughter today at Great Yorkshire, again very tired but no pain etc. Think we are all individuals listen to your body. However my husband was having kittens when I got on at the weekends !:)

I really can't see myself waiting that long, I can cope with tiredness but ill be very careful not to injure myself or overdo it.

It's very easy to convince yourself that you're fine and ready to do xyz. When you develop a hernia it's a different story. I can't stress enough how important it is to protect yourself from heavy lifting and over exercise too early - you may feel better but internally you're not healed.

Hi there,

I asked THG the same question and they said 6 weeks. Think about how much core strength you have to use when you ride. Also the risk of a fall following an op cant be good unless you have completely healed.

Please forgive me if this I am over-stepping the mark....but I notice in your avatar that your weight is recorded as 343lb's I wonder if you have not updated it recently? Only if it is accurate then I can't see that you are able to ride anyway as even a Clydie would not be up to that.

I have not ridden for about 9 months since my weight hit 15 stone, as I just dont feel like it is fair. I am about 3lb's off. But I know for me to be remotely comfortable with riding I need to be 14 stone ish (or under 200lbs).

Perhaps it is a BMI thing I am not very tall. So for me personally I like to be under 35 bmi to ride.

No my weight isn't that anymore it is alot less, and my horse is fine carrying my weight otherwise I wouldn't ride her :) But thanks for the reply.
