Need letter of proof

I am due to go on a all inclusive holiday in 11 days and have asked about food and drink available, I have been told that there are no sufar free drinks available but bottled water is, and I can eat from the buffet but they also have a la carte restaurants which have to be paid for.

I asked if it would be ok to eat in these restaurants and pay a childs price due to me having surgery and not being able to eat a adult portion, they have rang the resort and they have said as long as I can prove that I have had surgery then they will provide what ever sugar free refreshments I want which is very hospitable of them as I didnt expect them to go out of there way to cater for me, they will also allow me to pay child prices, now I could show them the medical dog tag Ive got on my neck or be brave and show them my scar lol but they have insisted that I have a letter of proof, my question is who do I get this from my GP or the surgeon? and with only 10 days left till I fly I need to make some urgent enquires

Have you not got your letter telling you your date for surgery. If not you should be able to get a copy from your wls provider

I never kept that will ring the hospital tomorrow and see if they can send me a copy

How about your surgeons secretary, maybe you could email her and ask her to send you something? Hope you get what you need and have a lovely holiday X

I Joined BOSPA they send you a card stating you have had surgery & therefore need to be served a smaller meal, it might be an option if others fail, you could telephone them & explain.

Your GP should have copies of all letters sent to him regarding your surgery on file. I'd contact them 1st as it may be quicker and they can just photocopy the letters and give them to you. They will probably charge, but it shouldn't be too much.

You should have received a copy of the letter they sent to your GP informing him/her of the details of your surgery. If you haven't got one then it would be worth asking your GP to print off a copy for you.

I would suggest doing exactly what Gail says...your GP will have copies of all your hospital/surgery notes & they will be able to make copies much more quickly for you...good luck & have a fabby holiday!

Thanks for all the replys I will go to my gp surgery in the morning if that fails I will contact my surgeons secretary as I have an appointment with him on the 18th, I'm just grateful that first choice and the hotel are bending over backwards to help me

My friend who had her op done at the same one I will be gave her a card to carry around (she had band fitted) to show restaurants and other establishments, also for medical purposes as well, did you get one of those from your provider, I thought that was the norm for all people who have had weight loss surgery to be given one of these. HTH

I'm sure your doctor would be able to give you a letter stating what surgery you had

First Choice rang this morning, I dont need a letter as I have a medical alert necklace which states Gastric Bypass and the hotel are happy to provide me with any food and drink I want, also that I can pay for a childs meal in the a la carte restaurants

Walsall Manor dont give any cards ect but think they should be given to anyone that has had surgery it would make it a whole lot easier

I've been looking for medical ID jewellery and the best ones I can find are these as they keep your details private inside rather than being engraved for everyone to see...

I think these are vitally important for bypass patients and it's important to include contact details of your Consultant in case of emergency as general surgeons could completely mess up the surgery we've had.

I got my necklace from Next of Kin - Portal it cost £12.95 for the year and that included the necklace, they send you a form to fill in all your details ect and your next of kin. You are then given a unique reference number, if anything happens the necklace gives all the details of my bypass ect, you are also given a key ring, a medical alert card, a card for your purse/wallet, a sticker for your passport and one for the inside of your mobile ( this one is incase u loose it and if found they can ring the number and it can be sent back to you)

if anything happened my necklace gives all the medical information and the one on my keys ect gives a number for the emergency services to ring, they give my ref number which is engraved on it and then they can get access to hu my gp is, my surgeon, the hospital that did the op ect and then also the company will ring my oh and tell him my location and what has happened so ge can get to me asap

the yearly Cost is £12.95 which I thought was cheap, you can buy the necklaces as well if you don't want the free one
