 Hi I'm Linda -Before GPS I had uncontrollable diabetes, and other related conditions including hypo thyroidism. high bp, high cholesterol, kidney damage, PCOS, other stuff too.
I had a RNY on the 6th September 2011. Im still on insulin but it's more under control and im on a lot smaller amount (from 4 injections upto 258 units per day to 1 injection of 40 units per day).
My start weight was 260 lbs and I now weigh 206 lbs - down 54 llb. But I havent budged for a couple of weeks now. I do aeromix and zumba 4 times per week and 1 x gym session. I do find it tricky getting in all my protein and I try to drink regularly too. Could being on insulin be slowing down my weight loss? Is this weight loss ok - I seem to read a lot about others who have lost so much more? Confused!!

Thanks Angie i didnt expect such a quick respose or any response really!!!! I sound like im falling apart but since the RNY I feel fantastic. x

i meant to put Linda pressed wrong button (sorry ) i only had my DS 8 weeks ago but can already feel the difference, i was only on metformin and liguratide injections and haven't had any at all since but have my yearly diabetic check soon so hopefully all will be ok and can just be diet and exercise controlled :) honestly though you will find everyone on here lovely and they will support you and try to help with any questions, xx

Hi and welcome, Not sure about the insulin thing as I wasn't on insulin only metformin which I don't take now but you may have hit a natural plateau. I'm good at plateaus and hit one every few weeks lol. Try and up your protein, especially as you are doing so much aerobic activity and definitely up the fluids, none of this will hurt even if it doesn't make any difference. When do you see your dietician again, they will be able to give you lots of advice.

You've done brilliantly so far so don't get downhearted Lovely.

hiya and welcome, I wud deffo try upping ur protein and fluid both can only be a gud thing, sorry I cant be of any better help hope someone else can xx

Hi thanks looks like i better up that protein then and start drinking more - I think im gonna have to use some kinda protein supplement though, ive put it off cos there always seems to be lots of sugar in them.

hi there and welcome, sorry i am no help

Hi Linda,
Welcome to the forum. Well done with your weight loss so far. You've done great.
I was on insulin before my op and I am just going, to start taking metformin as my blood sugars are a lot better. I do know that insulin hinders weightless as its a growth hormone.

Hugs

Thats great - you're doing so well. I hope I can come off the insulin in the future too - but my overall health is so improved, I feel fantastic - Im just really thankful.

You've lost 54lbs before you've stalled; that's pretty good I'd say! Just get the tape measure out or an item of clothing you want to get into and while you are waiting for the scales to start moving, see if inches are disappearing, or the item of clothing starts fitting you better. That way you know you are still making progress even if the scales are acting up!

I think I am going smaller, others are noticing a change - just hard for me to tell cos im still buying stretchy loose clothes. My head is playing catch up to my weight loss. My stats were scarey before WLS I might be brave enough to get out the tape measure soon. I havent been on the scales for a couple of days - im tryin to stop weighing myself all the time too. Thank you for your kind post.

Welcome Looby, are you a type one or two? As I am sure you are aware insulin does love to hold on to the fat cells ! How are your kidneys? Do you think you are holding fluid? Good luck - if your a type 2 is your Hba1c low enough to transfer onto exanitide or one of the new GPL4's?? xxx

Hi hun welcome n well dun on ur weight loss so far x

Hi there Im type 2. My physical health is definitely improving in all areas - I used to be on the exanatide - but it stopped working for me - they thought i started making anti bodies against it?!? I do think that I am retaining water. My recent HBa1c was 7.4 now that's come down loads.
Good luck with your surgery - its the best thing ive done for myself ever x . please keep me posted how you go.

If your a type 2 your are bound to go back onto oral and then nothing as your weight comes off, as long as you are still producing beta cells - keep up the good work. You could ask for a c-peptide blood test to check. xxx
