Hi there. I'm 5 days post surgery and trying to get my head around the next few weeks! I'm very nervous, excited, positive, a touch tender and looking forward to a healthier future. Any top tips would be hugely appreciated :D

Hi sorry I can't give you any tips as I'm at the beginning of my journey just wanted to welcome you to this great site x

I can't give you any tips either!! I'm at the very beginning of my journey - first hospital appointmemt coming up in March.

But I too just want to welcome you and wish you luck :)
You've come to a great site for support, help, hints & tips.
I look forward to catching up with you around the forum :)

Hello mollydolly
welcome im a bypasser of nearly 5 months the only thing I would say is stick to the post op guidelines you have been given dont push yourself to hard to make things happen and listen to your body and drink water
other than that well done for making it to the losers bench

Hi.

Just take your time in these early stages

Try to get your protein in. Baxters highland game soup is high protein

Sip your fluids constantly

And......look forward to your new life as a slimmer person xx

And stick around on the forum. Great folks around on it

Good luck xxxx

Hi Mollydolly. Welcome! What an exciting journey ahead. :) I have no tips as I'm still pre-op!
Good luck. :)

Thank you for all your support.

I'm currently managing a glass of smoothie for breakfast, half a tin of soup for lunch, same for dinner. Drinking black tea and water throughout the day. I managed a pot of custard yesterday as well. It's tricky to know how much I should be eating but as I'm not hungry im only eating as it is lunch/teatime!

I'm back at my specialist on the 16/2 so she will advise I guess. Does anyone think I'm having too much? I really don't want to risk overfilling at this stage. Also I'm finding my stomach really gurgling when I eat....is that normal? Lol daft question!

Thanks xx

Congrats on post op, I'm 9 weeks out. Good advice above. If you have wind pain peppermint tea definitely works. Take it easy but gentle walking in a couple of days if you're up to it to get the weight loss started will help :)

Thank you for your comments. I've been out and about a bit today and although I'm tired easily it's very nice just to be in the fresh air again! I've lost 14 lbs since my op but I'm guessing that's due to extremely reduced calorie intake and will slow as take more calories on board. Managing soup, shakes, jelly and miso, some discomfort when eating but not much and not every time.
Thanks again

Xx

Hi Mollydolly

I'm in Scotland and considering a Sleeve. Spoke to the nurse last week and seeing a psychologist next week. Still got a lot of research and thinking to do. Plus to try and get the cash together!! I'd be interested to follow how you are doing )

Hi LadyLou

I have to say I was very apprehensive and the cost is high, however I decided that I would buy a car for around the same price if I needed it and so instead my old car will just have to last me a few years longer!

I can't promise to post often but I will try to check in every week or so and if you want to ask me any specifics then maybe there is a private chat option? Only joined yesterday so I'm not entirely sure how this works!

Good luck in your funding and making your final decision. The procedure wasn't bad, I was home in just over 24 hours and apart from the first couple of days the pain has as not been too bad, I haven't any tablets since Monday night now and I'm feeling grand! So don't let fear of the actual procedure put you off.

Cheers

Hello Molly Dolly

Sounds like you are getting along well which is great to read - my op isnt until April so I am keen to read from those who have recently had surgery how they are managing. Hope it goes brilliantly for you and you enjoy good rewards for your hard work :)

Hi mollydolly, glad you are doing ok post surgery, although I haven't had a sleeve, had bypass last may, I think it's quite difficult to judge how much to have at the liquid/ puree stage. I think I was advised 3 to 4 table spoons per meal, and not more than a yogurt pot a bit further on, but could not always manage that and some days could do that easily. Best advise I think is to learn what is your body's signal for you that you are full, for me it is a burp! If I ignore the burp and eat any more then I get tight feeling in my chest! 9 months on from surgery I take notice of the burp and stop at that point! it may be a hiccup for you, who knows? Hope that helps a little. X

Hi Molly Dolly from a fellow scot here :). Welcome to the losers benchx

Quick question! Did any of you have a terrible dry furry mouth on the liquids post op? I'm sipping water/juice all day long but my tongue is bleurgh! :p

Also my wee smells peculiar....I'm thinking keytones?

Sorry weird/daft but just curious!

Cheers!

Perfectly normal Molly... Horrid but normal. Once you start introducing proper foods back into your diet again it disappears.
