Hi guys,

Well I thought I would come and introduce myself as I have been reading this board with interest lately.

My name is Dani, I am 21 and currently weigh 23 stone. Having tried xenical, slimming world, weight watchers and a specialised food plan from the nurse I am still stuck at around the same place. Because of this my gp thinks surgery is my last option and is necessary too as I have a lot of joint and bone problems, as well as sleep apnoea and my weight aggrevates my problems. I also had pancreatitis caused by my weight.

I have an appointment with the GP on tuesday as I had to go see a Level 3 Mental Health Assessor regarding my eating habits because I do have a tendency to binge. She was really nice though and agrees I don't have an eating disorder and that my eating of large portions is something which I learned due to always being tall (6ft2 now) I was always given grown up portions even as a child and so it just seems normal to me.

The gp thinks the band will be better suited for me rather than the bypass, so hopefully on Tuesday he will start the referral process. How long does it normally take for the referrals, does the nhs 18 weeks rule apply? I am in Leeds btw xx

Hi Ikkle, and welcome.

Dont know about the waiting times in your area, but in my area from referral to surgery seems to be an average of 6 - 7 months.

As to whether you are better suited to band or bypass, you need to do as much research as you can, and be honest with yourself about your eating habits.

Look forward to getting to know you hun xx

hiya Hun and welcome ... i think there is a few on here from Leeds to advice you on who and where ...

but don't worry your self about what it is you need at the min as when you go to see Dr's and surgeons they will explain better than your GP.

all i can say Hun is your young enough to try what is ever best for you and luckily your deciding to do something now ..

i have been same as you most my life also ..

im having gastric bypass cause i have no will power.

good luck Hun and keep us updated xx

Welcome...I read the boards here for a while before I starting posting.
I found this place so informative and reading peoples journey here
helps so much in making decisions.

I was worried that my questions would sound a little silly at first, but
it's all a learning curve here with many people only too happy to help.

I'm glad I came...You will too.

xXx

Thanks guys for the welcome. I will keep reading on here hopefully it will let me know more about my options and clue me up a little as to what happens etc.

hello and :welcome: to minis, i dont know the waiting times in your area but im sure some one will be along soon to advise on that.

im a nhs bander, and i like you was a "volume" eater and the band has helped me very much to control my food portions, as sam says do your research and be honest to them about your eating habbits.

good luck and any questions you have feel free to ask.

liz xx

Hi Ikkle, welcome to our little corner of Mini's :)

Hope your appointment goes well!

Hi Ikkle,:welcome2: to the forum. Ask away anything and I'm sure there will be someone who can help. As others have said "take your time and be honest with yourself" and that way you will be able to make the right decision. Good luck on your journey and hopefully you will share it with us. xxxGaynorxxx( :fingerscrossed:for tuesday)
