Hiya, Well a little about me, I'm 26 from Bournemouth.. I have a daughter who's nearly 8.. At my heaviest I was 20stone, lost a lot but now up to 4lb below 20stone.. My doc has referred me to tier 3 before but it got refused because I hadn't been on orlistat for long enough.. She referred me to tier 3 again yesterday so now have to wait and see.. Would love to hear about everyone's journeys.. I also would love another child but due to weight I now suffer from PCOS and my other half is infertile so will be very tricky so just concentrating on my weight at the mo.. Fingers crossed..

hi i'm in bmth too, good luck with your referral, hopefully you'll get sally as a diet specialist from the spire soton shes really lovely xxx

Hello midgetgem and very welcome

I and a whole load of others will have a similar tale to tell, I was fed up of losing 3 st putting 5 back on and turn fifty next yr so decided I was being fab at fifty, not fat and after yrs of nagging my husband for a gastric band, he agreed and I found this site in my research, it has been amazing, the support and help form everyone on here. I saw my GP as I am also on menopause and asked could he refer me for NHS band. He agreed and said it'll take forever and they will have you jump through many hoops but I think you are right for WLS so if you can self finance, go ahead, I will support you. So I began looking at gastric band, this is only my opinion and everyone has a different view and what's right for them, but my thoughts, the more I researched, the more it seemed the band was great but many slip, erode and need revision surgery. I didn't want this risk at my age, so moved to looking at a sleeve, the costs in UK floored me so I began looking at surgery abroad, terrifying thought at first, horror stories find their way to the media, never the success stories. I then found a great thread about surgery in Belgium, made many online friends who have been support and passing on great advice and had a mini gastric by pass on 11th sept, arrived home yesterday. All went well, the service was tip top and I'm feeling thinner already.
Research things well, everyone on here is brilliant and someone can always answer your question.
Good luck in your journey

Thank you Wendy, sounds like you've had a bit of a journey.. Glad everything went well and hope you recover well xxx

Hi it's 6 months of weigh in's with a dietician and going through your food diary what you can change etc and at least 3 appointments with a psychologist, I never saw an exercise specialist as nearest place they use was Ringwood so just joined local gym, also they give you a pedometer so you can log your steps but I found it fairly useless as it kept falling off so bought a fitbit off gumtree. It's basically to assess you and makke sure you can make the changes needed to work with surgery. As long as you do your best to hit your targets you will be just fine and they are achievable so don't panic xxx

Thanks, and what happens after the 6 months? Xxx

After the 6 months you have an exit appointment where you fill in piles of forms about how you found the last 6 months, and what you want I.e. Surgery or carry on dieting, the diet specialist will then write a letter saying whether or not she recommends tier 4 (surgery) longer on tier 3 or you can carry on alone, you'll get a copy too, my gp said it takes around 8 weeks to here whether or not you have been successful in getting funding or not and where you have been referred to, either a private hospital or nhs. I'm currently waiting to hear and stalking the postman lol I also opted to carry on with monthly weigh in's so I have to still be accountable so to speak. Hope that makes sense lol xxx

Yeah makes sense I think lol.. So quite a while to go.. Can I just ask how long you waited to hear to see if you've been accepted for tier 3.. My doc said she was sending the referral on Monday.. Agony waiting already and I know I've got such a long way to go.. Xx

Oh it seemed like an eternity lol I think about 3 months but was fairly quick after that sent questionnaire back and had a call couple of days later to arrange 1st appointment xxx

Welcome and good luck with your journey - whatever you decide :)

Lol.. So yep a long way to go.. But will hopefully be worth it :) if you lose lots of weight in tier 3 to show your determined will they still recommend tier 4? If everything else is ok xx

Yes if that's the route you want to take but at the end of the day it's all down to funding, so it's a case of jumping through all the hoopsand hoping for the best xxx

It's all going to be worth it - that's what I keep telling myself! :) x
