just been told by another memeber who has the same surgeon that waiting list is now 3 years, no longer worth the stress and i dont know why you have to even see the surgeon and then the nurse if surgery will be so many years down the line.

Which area are you referring to please Bonny?
That seems like a very long time... I haven't heard that...

Thanks for sharing.

Love and hugs xx

i havent heard anything either bev, it does seem an awfully long time, bonny i really feel for you. hugs xxx

I find this incredible if as you have previously stated that you have an increased mortality risk within the next two years without this surgery

Surely if your case for having this surgery is so strong your GP or PCT can do something to get your case dealt with sooner? :sigh:

sorry to hear that hun surely theres something that you can do about it? who exactly told you this info, make sure its right first hun but maybe contact pals see if theres something they can do to speed it up or like karlos said, your gp x

i wouldnt give up even if the wait was 5 years - id rather be fat for the next 5 years than fat for the rest of my life xxx

Oh hun - that does seem like an awfully long time, and it can be so disheartening to be told that it is so far down the line.

Please never give up hope, sometimes in life hope is all we have, so please dont give up.

Are you sure this "other member" has their info right? Maybe they heard wrong or passing on the message wrong - like a game of chinese whispers? Maybe the wait is for 3 years for her, maybe she has extra tests, funding or more weight to lose??

Dont give up until you hear it from the surgeon's own mouth.

Stay positive. xxxxxxxxxx

my pct is bromley i was told by the surgeons sec today that the waiting list is done in date order only, the reason the wait is now so long is that the surgeon performs 6 ops in a month rather than the 26 ops in a month that he previously used to do
if i cant get another surgeon on the nhs i may have to consider getting a remortgage to go private being in debt will be better than staying in the state that im in

Unfortunately, this seems to be a more frequent problem in some areas due to cutbacks. It totally sucks doesn't it. If you are able to raise the funds privately then go for it I say xxx

Hi Bonny, as ive already told you im under mr el hasini & was taken in on the 12/01/11 i can honestly tell you whilst i was waiting for a bed there was 3 of waiting & a phone came in saying another patient was due in @ 7am on the 13th so that was 4 of us scheduled for surgery on the 13th , sorry that you are having so many problems xx

Can you ask your GP to refer you to another hospital? They know your medical history and how you need this operation so they may be open to referring you elsewhere once they hear the timescale you have been quoted.

I agree with keeley, I would rather wait 3 years, as some ppl are not even given the chance of surgery. xx

hi yes i now have another referal with a different surgeon so i now have 2 surgeons x

The other thing you have to remember Bonny (although you may not think it right now) is this: How long have you lived at the weight you are now? Personally i was fat for 26 years so in the big picture another 3 years wouldn't have made that much difference...

Keep your chin up girl, it might seem like ages but it does come round quick enough. Use the waiting time to learn all you need to know xx

hi ive been overweight most of my life, i was slim for about 5 years and got to the point when i just couldent keep taking loads of phentermine as my body got to used to the drugs and being spaced out on them
i wish i had the bypass years ago but wasent brave enough at the time, plus i didnt have health problems then and its made me withdrawn from the world so when my gp suggested surgery for me i thought i would get some confidence to get some life back with better health so i might consider going india if they keep changing the timescale within 1 week the list went from 2 years to now 3 years and worry incase this changes again
i know what you mean that time goes quickly but at the moment a watched kettle never boils
i have a pre op meeting in feb and cant understand why, when the surgery is a long time away, i just got unlucky as most people had there ops in approx 8 months with my surgeon
during the waiting game i could end up having as many as 10 plus ops as my diabetes are causing me to have huge abcess that need ops at the moment im getting them every 2 months as soon as ive recovered from 1 i then get another which is frightening as my aunt who had diabetes at the same problem with abcess and and was going to have her leg amputated but it got to late as the blood poisioning reached her lungs and she died 18 months ago which is still shocking to the family
i only found out i was diabetic due to the constant abcess and had a blood test that revealed i was now diabetic at a young age so in a way my aunt saved me
i will continue to plod along and live on hope and think well at least this op was in my lifetime x
