my dietician has banned my sugar free fizzy drinks from diet from now on and I have been sticking to it religiously .... but I took my kids to a play centre today and it felt like every parent had a bottle of delicious, crisp ice cold pepsi max (my fave) on their table and every time I heard the whisper as they took of the cap and the sigh as they took a sip ..... ARGH!!!

I resisted and drank my (now lukewarm) water .... I should be feeling virtuous but I am just feeling hard done by... it will be worth it, it will be worth it, it will be worth it.....

It will be worth it, remember you are won't be able to drink fizz post op, which is a biggie for me too. I drink diet coke more than anything else, so know how you're feeling. As soon as the 20l in my cupboards gone, that is the end of a 30 year love affair!

I used to love it too, I tried it about 4 months post op with all the fizz whisked out. MOST DISGUSTING STUFF EVER, YUK. You wont miss it in the long term.

exactly Emmten - I know I have to give it up, I am willing to give it up, but I think david cameron should ask the cola companies to stop making it available in the UK! What do you reckon? x

I do occasionally partake if a mouthful of fizzy drink. BUT don't swallow!!

Sometimes I just get 'that' feeling in my mouth that just fizz will cut through xx

Mini bar sized cans for emergency use then. Would have to be sure of the willpower to spit it out!

I gave up fizzy drinks this week and so far so good. I don't miss them at all. But i totally understand where you are coming from. I love that fizzy burn in the back of my throat. right after my last mouthful of food. Absolute heaven!

It does get easier when the rest of humanity has your former vices in front of you, but it can take a long while, months to get used to. 99.9999% of the time now my husband can eat anything in front of me and I don't even blink, but it's taken a year to get to this place.

I've recently started introducing a can of soda into my day, but it takes 2 days de-fizzing in the fridge. It's worth the wait and I'm not tempted in anyway to start sipping it early.

It's good to have the power over a demon, shame it's taken me my entire life to get to this point. And I know this is a life challenge to stay in control, the minute I feel like I am slipping and the lot is down the drain

I was diet coke addict as well, went out for an hour tonight, first time since my op last Saturday and took my own bottle of nas squash to drink in the pub!

I dont drink much fizzy stuff - but I do like a soda water and lime. I also like it nice and fizzy and not de-gassed.

At 5 months out, I CAN drink the occasional small glass without repercussions. I've done it several times.... normally when going out for a meal. I'll order drinks with everyone else, drink some of it and by time meal comes I'm ready to eat.

I dont partake on a regular basis - but it is nice to have a little from time to time.

I loved pepsi max but have found an amazing sugar free drink. It's fruit shoot mini hydro bottles - clear water but with a lovely fruit taste and can hardly taste the sweetener. Been an absolute lifesaver.

Pepsi Max without the Phizz just tastes chemical and disgusting. I found Volvic sugarfree flavoured water really is a lifesaver.

I am another Pepsi addict and I know I am going to miss it. I guess I will have to get a mini fridge I can use in the car. I travel a lot with work. I need my still drinks cold to enjoy them. The kids in the family don't like fizzy drinks, never have, when they were little they said the drinks were too spikey!

I love Pepsi max even more now that I have it flat! I pour it in a big jug and leave if in fridge for a few days b4 drinking, its lush! x

I didn't know until this week you couldn't have fizz post-op... I feel your pain... but as they always say no pain no gain..
