So got a call saying they will do my sleeve this week Wednesday so not too long after yesterday's let down. The problem is we had booked things nicely around my op and everything changes now. Wondering what people thi k? Would I be well enough to go to Michael McIntyre 8 days after my op? How did people feel at that time post sleeve? We booked these tickets for our anniversary and paid a lot!

Fantastic news!! Well I could have driven home from the airport ate my sleeve, hopefully you will be fine :) x

from me phone :D

See how you feel - I do know of a sleever who was dancing about 2 days post op (have seen the video!) so all being well you should be feeling better...just take it easy.

xxx

I think as long as u have complete rest and dont over do things u should u be fine. when I had my op ( I am a bander) I was walking round the shops 2 days afterwards - Each to their own only u will know how u feel once u have had the op xxx Wishing u all the best BD xx

Oooh these are all really encouraging replies bec hub was thinking of selling now and I said he should wait to see how I feel and now will def hold off selling them! Of course everyone diff but still helps to hear that i could feel fine! Xx

I think you should be ok, like people have said everyone is different so no one knows for sure but I think as long as you really take it easy before and get driven there and back you should be fine. Be careful of laughing too much though, that might hurt lol :) x

Hi Eve,

Glad to read that your op has been re-booked. :) :)

You should be OK for going out 8 days post op but as others have said just don't laugh too much -- easier said than done if you are going to a comedy thing !!!

Do the stitches not dissolve by then?

There are no stitches in a sleeve .... unless you have one of the rare surgeons who *does* overstitch the sleeve (but they are few and far between -- something you might want to ask your own personal surgeon).

The sleeve is held together with 3,000 (or 5,000 or 10,000 ???) titanium staples and that's it -- it's just metal staples holding your stomach together for the rest of your life, no stitching (unlike a bypass which does have stitching particularly at the join between the pouch and the intestine).

The staple line is normally deemed "secure" at 30 days post surgery -- that is why it is important to take things gentle and carefully in the first few weeks -- no sudden aerobics, no overloading with big chunks of real food (all liquid and puree for first 4 weeks), etc etc -- treating the stomach delicately (food in take wise and activity wise) gives the surgery the best chance of being 100% fully secure at 30 days.

I think I picked up this info about the sleeve staple line being secure after 30 days from Dr Guillermo Alvarez's book "Successful Weight Loss with the Gastric Sleeve" (google it, it's pretty easy to find).

I think you'll be fine to go but I found sitting still hard. I was always jiggling about trying to shift the gas x

Sorry I didn't mean internal stitches I meant the 5 cuts they make to get inside- how long are those sore for and how are those cuts closed

I just had steri strips and dressings on top. Took a good few weeks to heal. Mine weren't sore at all x

As Tealovingsleever says, for *most* of us just with steri strips / dressings.

Very few surgeons stitch (internally) nor externally the bullet holes where all the instruments and cameras go in ..... you can ask yours if he does (a few do stitch but very few).

The rest "glue" or steri-strip the bullet wounds closed.

For me the largest wound (the one where they removed the stomach from) took about 3 weeks to *fully* close and seal ..... it was "partially" healed after about 7 days but needed re-dressing a few times (first few times by the nurse at my GP practice and then by me).

Good Luck !!
