Post surgery - do u ever feel weak...

FEDup1981

I WILL look like this!!
from not eating enough or getting what ur body needs?

Just curious as ive read a lot of people vomit, or cant eat much - but does ur body get enough?

It takes a little time but your body adjusts to the reduced calorie intake, during that time you feel tired and can feel weak. That is why you are recommended to take 2 weeks off post op, but each person is different and adjusts at different rates

HI,

It took me 6 weeks before I felt my strength return. I was very weak and tired, but did not vomit etc...and forced myself to eat regularly, as I had no appetite for weeks! I think it is a combination of reduced intake and recovering from surgery! I just had an op on my wrist and slept for 3 days after...lol! I returned to work after my bypass 4 weeks post op.

Kel xx

Nope :) I feel much more energetic than previously, and am never sick. I wear myself out and overdo things but thats more to do with my health problems.

I worried before surgery that I would feel weak and sick with hunger but it never happened....the only time I did feel shattered was when I ran out of vitamins for two weeks....never again they make such a difference....if you take your meds as prescribed and eat well you should be fine...xx

Thanks everyone.

Id just thought of a few things that i needed answering, and you guys are fab!

I climbed Helvellyn (second highest mountain in England) on Saturday, this time last year i could hardly climb the stairs, my energy levels are 1000% better than they were pre op !

I wish my energy levels were higher. I'm over 4 months post op, and am still getting dizzy spells, light headedness, and exhaustion. Much worse than pre op. I saw the doctor yesterday about it, and she couldn't explain it, said that it was probably because of the rapid weight loss, but i'm not so sure.

Hi all

I am nearly 10 weeks post op and i am only just getting back some energy. I have struggled up until a few days ago to eat and ive been in a permanent state of needing sleep. I am getting there slowly and feel like i have more energy day by day. I have experienced vomiting quite a lot when trying to eat, hence why it has taken so long for me to be able to eat on a regular basis. Now though i am building up my food intake slowly and havent been sick for about 6 days.

It will get easier and i have to focus on the fact i am getting back to a weight i want to be and have a body i have dreamed of for so long so all of this is worth it.

Have they checked your B12 levels and do you take anything for high blood pressure??? I only ask because I was a bit weak and light headed last week to the point of knocking coffee off the shelf in the shops...I checked my BP and it was sitting pretty low saw the GP and he has taken me off one of my tablets the beta blocker as this lowers your pulse and with the weight loss also lowering it, it made me light headed. Another cause could be lacking in vitamin B12....I have just had a blood test for this as getting lots of pins and needles in my hands (really bad) and this can also be a sign of lacking in B12....just a thought or two which might help...xx

Hi Natasha make sure you take your vitamins at all costs as they really do help you. Protein will also give you a bit more energy as it builds muscle etc....xx

Thanks everyone.

Ive already started taking bassets chewy vitamins, in a pink/purple packet, so that i get into the habit of them.

Looks like everyone is different, some feel fantastic almost from the off, while it takes others a good few weeks to adjust. I suppose theres no predicting what i might be! (probably feel so sorry for myself for weeks!! lol)

Short answer for me is yes. 7 months down the line and I'm still sick sometimes. I've experienced quite alot of muscle loss and am much weaker now. I still cant excersize to much as I fatigue quite quickly and my leg strength is very poor, I cant get up from the kneeling position withouy using my arms to pull myself up and lowering myself to get into the car is awkward.
I couldnt go back into my old job as it was sometimes physical and I simply couldnt do it at the moment.
