PRE-OP QUESTION:-Hypnotherapy-has anyone tried this? - update

POPPET

Sunny Horizons
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has tried hypnotherapy for weight loss?
I have an appointment tomorrow at my local college so I will let you know how it goes

I use Paul McKenna and BrainSync and I find they really help me stay on track if I use them daily.
I had my councellor teach me a relaxation self hypnosis thing before my op as I was really scared I wasn't going to come out of it due to my size. Luckily on the day I was so peaceful as I went under and obviously that really helped with that.
I really enjoy and benefit from hypnosis and although it's not for everyone obviously, definately worth a go if you have the opportunity.

I paid £600 for three treatments a few years ago, unfortunately it did not eork for me.
i also did paul mckenna and had a course oh hypnotherapy via GP! none worked on weight loss for me

I think my session is £10 or £15 tomorrow!

I had 2 sessions to try and help me get back on track a couple of years ago after I had lost some weight with Cambridge Diet and was on the slippery regain slope. It didnt work for me unfortunately. x

Hi Poppet, yes i tried hypnothreaphy about 3 yrs ago at great expense!! i lost 2 stone but in all honesty i think at the time i was in a place where i was ready to give my diet ago (if u know what i mean!) i have always been a big yo-yo dieter like most of us i'm sure, maybe it will work for you, i think we're all try anything once!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck :D

I think I have tried many many different hypnosis tapes etc and different people one to one. It's finding the particular one that suits, like a councellor I spose, you either click with them or you don't. It's not magical unfortunately, usually takes a long time to sink in properly, like 4 to 6 weeks of continuous use and can be great as a supplement to diet & exercise..not really the sole cure as it were. If nothing else it's great to learn how to relax properly as that has to be helpful in easing stress and comfort eating as well as helping with a decent nights sleep.
I have persevered and kept looking til I found what works good for me. Some people I have tried could not get me under (it's more a deep relaxation actually, you don't forget what happens to you and go all woozy)
I dunno Poppet, try it and see. I can send you a copy of one of mine that is really soothing if you want...and if it helps with the weight loss as well then all the better. Hope you keep an open mind and enjoy it x

Arrrrgh!!! - now I'm worried I'll fall asleep & start snoring lol
I've been known to wake myself up with my loud snoring-
seriously though I am perhaps not in enough of a receptive mode-
I shall relax & do a bit more research to give it my best shot

LOL! Ah you'll be allright...like others said maybe it won't work at all for you..maybe you might find it worth sticking at to get the benefit and it might even be fab first time and really make you perk up.
Just enjoy it anyway x Good luck
BTW
Don't try too hard, just relax and listen. You don't have to force yourself into a trance or anything.
Just view it as a relaxation and see what happens x

Thanks Neen - I feel a bit more relaxed & informed about it now-
will let you know how it goes

I tried it and it didn't work for me. Here's to hoping for better results for you.

Well I managed not to fall asleep & start snoring-but only just!

Bearing in mind that they were still students & it only cost me £10 and it helped their studies I think it was a good use of an hour and a half on a Saturday afternoon.
So it was 20 mins admin form/questionaire and chat about what weight/dress size I would like to be followed by nearly an hour of the on the "eyes-closed on the couch" bit.I don't really know that i went "under" as such but it was very relaxing and seemed more like 15 minutes than an hour and to say she only had limited information about me much of it was still relevant and I would say it was quite an emotional experience and had a good 15 minutes chat at the end about WLS/virtual banding.

Did it help to curb my apetite/eat more healthily? Sadly I can report that I already know that it hasn't
Has it had any effect on me?Yes I am definitely doing more thinking and I have been extremely tired/exhausted
Would I pay a lot of money to try it again? No

If I think I'm getting any further benefit I will update
