prevention of becoming a sagpuss!!

looking for my mojo
Hi all..... I heard from a friend recently that palm oil or coconut oil can be good for preventing saggy skin post op. Does anyone on here use this and if so what results have you had? xx

I have been using palm oil and my skin in places is really bad..........but saying that it may have been much worse if i hadnt used the oil? who can say xx

in my humble opinion, no lotions or potions can prevent saggy skin. With the amount of weight most of us have to lose I think its almost inevitable.

There are a lucky few (usually younger women who havent yo-yo'd with their weight, or had children) who's skin still has good elasticity and will go back to "normal"

Looking after your skin is a good habit to get into though. Again, many of us perhaps havent looked after/pampered ourselves as much as we should.

I have to admit that the only place I have looked after over the years is my face, this lovely weather has prompted me to get some SPF50 to slap on it! I am paranoid about wrinkles on my face. The rest of my body, I knew I was going to have trouble with the excess skin and it has already started and no amount of slapping potions on it will make a blind bit of difference. I am just going to the gym and swimming to try and get the muscles back that I have lost and hopefully qualify for surgery!

I've used several lotions & potions over the years that are meant to prevent or reduce scarring/stretch marks, cellulite etc and to be honest I've never found any that work! The only thing that has ever helped to reduce keloid scarring are Cica-Care Silicone Gel sheets, but they're expensive and only suitable for prominent scars.

I just use a daily moisturiser now... current favourite is from the Soap & Glory range which makes my skin feel great and soft as a baby's bottom ;)

I also use bio oil and it does make the skin feel better and helps with stretch marks but doesnt cure them.

It does make you feel better and being older your skin gets dryer so it really helps me.

I mean to say that soft crapey skin is a lot better than cracked dry crapey skin.:D:D

I'm with Twiggie on this one, a good daily moisturiser keeps the skin more elastic.

Also agree that the soap and glory products are lush! I got a great big vanity case full of the stuff for xmas. I use the body scrub in the shower twice a week too and its fab.

No I dont work for them lol x

I'm using Bio-oil on keloid scars and it snot making any difference - does help with the dryness and itching though.

I have terrible skin very prone to keloids - look like worms on my knees lol - but I have been surprised how the excess skin has shrunk back with no intervention from me!! I do sag and bag - my boobies are like Xmas stockings with fruit in the toes - unless folded into me bra, but my overhang is less than pre-op.

My legs spread when I sit down and are very baggy thighs and calves when I stand up

I paint such an impressive picture - Rubenesque I ain't !! :O

Thank heavens for clothes

Have gone off track sorry

Was it the hat box one? I got that too :D

I love all their products, well apart from the hair conditioner which left my hair slightly greasy. I seem to have a problem with most shampoo/conditioners though apart from Dove so I always stick to that now.

ohhhhhhhh I am a very naive poster - I dont fink what i said was what I meant lol!!

Well I've tried to put what I meant and I'm digging a deeper hole but thighs are skinny stood up and flobby sat down

There that will do while I go look for a spade for more digging

Will engage brain before typing in future :p

Angela and your post was just making me think how sexy i would feel after a bit of weight loss lol.....

After all these years as a fatty and happily doing it with the light on, i think i'm gonna have to start turning it off soon :) Never mind lol xx

If you look at before and after photos you will notice that people who before weight loss had a lot of fat on their face, after weight loss that fat has gone. Their face isn't saggy with loose skin as other parts of their body may be.

I think it is down to the fact that the face is always moving as it were - for instance talking, expressions, eating etc so the jaw and face muscles and chin(s) are moving. I think it is that that makes a face slim with no sagginess, and perhaps body exercise as well as masage should be started as soon as medically advised after surgery.

As to the type of exercise, I guess only a professional trainer would know what is best, or perhaps a surgeon in a follow-up clinic could advise. That is just my take on it, but not sure whether exercise would help, and I suppose it is genes and age that may be the answer.

well i have always moisturised from being a teenager and also exercised. when i saw the plastic surgeon he commented on my muscle structure and said that it showed that i had always been active as they are very defined!!!
But alas my skin is just like and overstretched piece of elastic!!! i have used an assortment of things over the years but coconut butter and bio oil have been my favs over the years.. I certainl dont have many visable stretch marks but as you can see from my photos my skin really is a mess!!!

Gosh.... thanks guys I had no idea there had been so many responses, my email only let me know about the first one!!
I'm using Bio Oil at the mo as I already had some but sounds like just a body butter might be fine for moisturising.

Thanks ever so for the help, and thinner Angela I loved yr posts.... from spreading legs to flobby skin, the mind boggled lol :):)

Pmsl at this thread! I'm worried about sagginess too, but think it's almost inevitable....I'm not proud....I've got a savings pot already started so when I finally reach my goal weight and maintain it for a suitable time period, I'm going to get myself nipped, sucked and tucked on whatever bit needs it from my nose down to my ankles!
