What do you guys think about this article??
Weight-loss surgery can lead to psychological distress - Diabetes UK

I've read the article and I'm not too impressed with it.
It states these things and keeps stating them throughout the article but doesn't actually say what pyschological effects have been found and whether they differ from the pyschological effects of having lost weight in a conventional manner. Those who have gained weight and lose it by what ever means (be it weight watchers, bariatric surgery, VLCD) - will suffer psychological issues to some degree because they ca no longer turn to food for comfort and will battle maintaining weight .... so I'm not sure what it is the article is trying to say about bariatric surgeries above and beyond other weight loss regimes. The article is really weak in my opinion. Shame on them!

''People who have gastric band surgery to lose weight are at risk of low self-esteem, relationship problems and being dissatisfied with their body image, according to new research being presented at the Diabetes UK Annual Professional Conference (APC) today.''
I'm fairly certain I have all those symptoms already, in addition to the physical health problems from being morbidly obese, so I don't really see their point.
i think the only difference between a surgery route and diet route is the speed in which it happens.
This is why people who undergo WLS often need/have counselling....instead of the changes being slow over a longer period it can happen VERY quickly...you expect it to be quick but i think for many it is still a shock at how much it does actually change you
