I have been told I have to see psychologist and im scared. I dont want them to say no.

Can anyone tell me what to expect?

Lou xx

Why are you scared? They are there to help and support you. They will probably just ask you lots of questions about your relationship with food. Don't be scared and answer honestly xx

Hi Lousarah,
Dont worry, view him/her as a person not a hurdle to get over.
On my shrink app i felt the same... what a fool i was, they ask how long have you been over weight, why you think you over eat, could there be triggers in your past/poss future the will trigger again once you've had your op !!
Be honest & you'll be fine..
goodluck

I couldn't have been more anti this to start with, and resisted as much as I could.

I have found keeping in contact with my counsellor one of the most essential parts of my wls.

Going forwards, I think that they will be a lifeline and safety net for a long time to come

The shrink appointment is absolutely routine we all had to do it, please try not to worry about it. Mine just asked what my relationship with food was like and how I felt about it, they will want to make sure you understand that surgery is not a magic wand and you can have to will power to succeed afterwards. As long as they know you understand what's involved before an after the surgery you will be fine. I hope it goes well.

Thank you everyone. I think im concerned because st georges said not everyone has to see one but I must because of my bipolar disorder so it makes it sound negative rather than helpful. Im worried ill say one wrong tbing and they will use the bp to not do op.

Xx

Try not to worry,

It's something we all have to go through, when I had mine done I was honest and told everything about eating habits/depression etc.
I still got my op done, they are here to help you x

I was very worried about my psychologist appt too and I thought thy would fin a deep
Dark psychological problem in me that would render me declined from surgery lols. But actually it was fine. Some ppl only see the psychologist once and then they are ready to go ahead. But some have to see the psychologist for a few sessions. I saw psychologist for a few sessions. I wanted all the help I could get and was willing to see if there was anything they could help me
From a psychological aspect. After a few sessions she felt that things were fine and she'd write a favourable
Letter to consultant. So I really wouldn't worry. Everyone has to do it. And remember it is in there best interests to help ppl lose weight for benefits in the long run. I've never heard ppl getting declined from a psychological perspective. The only time is when someone hasn't lost the weight loss goals they have given. X

So ive just had the app with the psych. The most important thing is that she gives me her support and will write a report for the mdt meeting.

She asked me what my goal was. I said ten stone (I weigh 17) and she said I will only lose half my excess weight then regain a little then stabilise. I dont understand. I see you guys writing all the time about being at goal and yet she said once im done losing from the band I would still be overweight just less so.

Confused.

That is normal. Some people may reach their own personal lower goal but it is not a guarantee. When I went for my appointment I said the same (I would like to get to around 10-11 stone) but was told I should realistically expect to get to around 14 stone. I said I was happy with this. You may get to 10 stone but the psychologist is trying to manage your expectations in case you never get there. A small amount of weight gain and stabilise is also normal x x

This is the appointment I am tge most worried about because I have a mental health history and I'm worried that they will delay my surgery due to this??? Is anyone else post or pre op on antidepressants? X

Pink princess im bipolar and I got through with no issues. Ive been stable for over two years though. She just said there are high risks of suicide post op in people with psych history... been there. Done that. Not gonna do it again lol.

Xxx

Thanks for replying lousarah I think as long as I'm honest with the physic I shoukd be fine im on meds and fairly stable now x
