Hi eggbat - welcome to mini's
I went private to for my bypass so cant coment on the NHS, i'm two days post op and at home feeling great now
anything you want to know just ask, the wealth of knowldege, experience and positivity on this site got me through the last few days.

Hi eggbat, your PCT will be able to tell you the timescale. Most NHS trusts have an agreement with a private hospital to do the surgeries, and everything is set out on a time scale. So it might be that you have to receive your appointment within 6 weeks of funding, and you have to be seen within 3 months etc. All vary though, so best to check with your PCT.

thanks again everyone.i first discussed options with my gp in october07,he then refered me to endocrinologist in dec07 saw him for first time he agreed that surgury the thing to do.i then underwent series of blood tests,sleep tests,had to see psycologist etc.this brings me to march08 when no mention of funding had been mentioned upon questioning this it was duly applied for.funding was granted the end of july08.ihad heard nothing untill this morning when i recieve a letter and questionare, also to contact gp for more bloodtests.the first sentence.on letter says blah.blah obesity management service blah.blah. blah.not everyone needs an operation.there was also a date to go and see them at the.end of september...as you all can imagine this is all wearing a bit thin.the hospital app is almost a two hour drive for me so if i get there.just to be told how many apples i shoud eat then i will be quite angry.

Hey Bat, stay with it, it will all be worth it in the end, those that go through weight lose surgery on the NHS seem to be pulled through the hoops, its enough for you as an adult to make the decision to go through with this sort of life saving surgery in the first place, then to have to convince others that have nothing to do with your or your life that this is right for you and your life is in my opinion outragious. I think it all comes down to money, a bypass on the NHS costs about 10k in the UK, so its a significant amount of spending on one paitent, that said the specialist consultants i've seen consider this type of surgery as life saving, and therefore no different from any other type of operation that preserves life !
I chose to go private for mine and dispite the cost i'm glad i did, i dont think i could have faced a wait of up to a year !
But keep going its worth it !

Just wanted to welcome you to minis! I paid privately for my bypass and went to Belgium, so I too cannot comment on NHS procedure.
But what I can say is stick with it! I feel I have made the best decision ever to have this op. I am dropping weight for the first time in ages and I'm looking so much better at almost 3 weeks post op!

just wanted to stop by and say hello and welcome to minis! I had my op done privately at the Thornbury in Sheffield, best decision I have ever made, my life has totaly changed for the better. Have you had any dates yet on when your op could take place? xx
