Reasons for rejection

Hi,
I was just wondering if there are any common issues/reasons why the NHS turn people down for bypasses???

Thanks

Sorry can't help I am waiting for a decision on my funding. I suppose it comes down to money as I think it is about £10,000 for a bypass so they can't fund everyone. Fingers crossed they will say yes on Friday for me.

Good luck!!! I really hope they say yes for you!!!!!!!

the most common reason is not meeting the NICE criteria with bmi's

I am around 41 BMI so I'm ok (as my doc is going through Camden). I don't have any other problems but there is A LOT of diabetes and weight-related problems in my family.

Sorry if it sounds like a weird question! I am just jotting down some things to ask when I go for my appointment, and am writing a list of why I want it done. My brain turns to mush when I'm put on the spot so if I have it written down then it'll be ok!!! I'm also going to write a list of what I have done to try and lose weight in the past.

Is age ever taken into consideration? I'm 28. Are they likely to tell me to get down the gym!!??!

My niece Racheal (she does post here sometimes) is only 21, so don't think age comes into it.

I would say one thing - money. There isn't enough money to pay for everyone to have surgery even if they meet the NICE criteria. That's why some PCT's ask for BMI's over 60 only etc.
